I see you!

1. Have you ever read Parenting for Everyone?  If so, thoughts?

2. What was the book on raising a child the Montessori way that you recommended to someone else?

3. Have you ever read any [parenting] books on the subject "emotion coaching"?

4. Any other [parenting] reads that are high on your reco list?

Yes, you are the most well read sociologist/parent I know.  Take it for what it's worth.  Smile

  • Hey!

I haven't read that particular book, no. I did just check out the website and it does look kind of interesting.

Most of my reading has to do with parenting and class and race rather than actual techniques. I loved Unequal Childhoods, which I promised I'd loan you a million years ago. It just made me more aware of the privileges that I was inactively passing along to my offspring, and to see how they could affect his future trajectory in positive and negative ways.

The book I recommended to LMK was How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way. It talks about how you can incorporate the philosophies in your home and different activities you can do. Like I told LMK, I didn't go all out with it and completely change the layout of my house or anything, but it's still a neat read and there are some really good ideas.

I also liked Mind in the Making and Nurtureshock. For working mothers, The Second Shift is a classic must-read. I also liked Mommy Wars and Opting Out.

Let me go home and check out my bookshelf and I'll get back to you. I also have a list of books I want to read a mile long on raising boys.

Thanks, you also rock, friend.  Anything else that you've read and would recommend?

  • I suggest calling my mom when a parenting dilemma comes up. That's my go-to manual. ;-) I'm going to check out some of these books too.

  • HA!  That is what I do...far too often, in fact.  However, I figure, she raised me, and I'm pretty much the coolest, most well-adjusted, most intelligent person I know, so...  Stick out tongue

I stopped doing this when she bought me a bottle of this when I had mastitis. Also when she offered to rearrange Charlie's energy field when he wasn't sleeping through the night.

I like you, even though you smell like garlic.
