My DD is 22 months old and she has been using the potty off an on since she was 12 months old (on her own doing because she loved it). We have gone through times where we have had whole days with just 1 or 2 accidents and then a few days of not using the potty really and then using it really well again. I know that she is pretty much ready to be potty trained now since the past week she has told us more and more that she has to go, but at this point I dont know what to do next. -- We have a new DD coming any day so I have not really been pushing the issue, but I figure if she deals with it well and is still doing what she has been doing then we will push it a little. My daycare person is not working on it with her because of A) lazyness and requiring us to have her in pullups which are much more expensive than her size 3 diapers that we buy. She loves pullups but I dont think sees them as any different than a diaper and we tried real underwear but the last time we did it she bent right down and peed on the floor. With all that being said what should I do now? Have daycare get on the job? Wait until after the baby comes to do anything? Use pullups or underwear all the time at home? Have her not wear underswear at all - I was reading about this?
Thanks!
Re: Potty Training: What now? Advice plllleeease
I found pull-ups derailed all of our success. She treated them like a diaper and just peed anytime and any place. We switched and went full time panties during the day and it took a few days but we haven't had an accident in several weeks. You have to commit to being at home with her and getting her into a potty routine before you start taking her out again. If you work start Friday afternoon after work and put her in panties and let her go. If she pees calmly clean it up and change her into new ones and emphasize that she needs to go on the potty. Continue doing that Saturday and Sunday and by Monday you'll be surprised with how much progress you've made. I really think they have to have a few accidents to know what it feels like to be wet and to really know when to go.
For little girl undies Dillards sells XXXS and they fit DD much better than the huge 2T/3T ones that you can get at Target. I also found it was nice to have at least 10 pairs because those first few days you go through several a day.
