Quick question - can they sleep in boppies?

Quick question - can I put the boppies in their crib and let them sleep?

I thought I read somewhere that this is a no-no. They need to be inclined as they both are sick and congested. They sleep great in them, but they are supervised and not out of my sight during the day.

Your thoughts- yay or nay?

They are in the same crib right now and I have Angelcare monitors. Should I put them in their own cribs and turn them on? Right now I have the movement monitor off since they are sharing.

Ugh - I HATE SICK BABIES!!! Can we fast forward to spring??

  • It's a no-no. I wouldn't do it. Place a few folded towels under one side of their mattress to create an incline. We have a wedge for Sam under his mattress, the incline is about three inches or so at its highest point.

  • No. I'd try to elevate the crib but no way would I leave them in boppies overnight.

  • I don't think you're supposed to. Something about them slipping down into the Boppy and it hindering their breathing.

However, DD slept propped up in hers a few times without any problems.

  • Do you have "pumpkin" type carseats?  If so, strap them into those.  We still do that with the boys when they are sick.  It works wonders and you know they will be safe.

  • Thanks - that's what I thought.

I'm just running out of options and I feel bad when I can't comfort them.

They are salined, suctioned, and fed. We tried to incline their cribs already and it didn't make much of a difference.

I don't like them sleeping in car seats. I'm weird about that - not sure why.

ditto this. I was in your shoes with a stuffy baby. I had her in boppy next to  me in bed without any issues. Have you tried swing? bouncer?

You have to do what your comfortable with but that's what the pedi recommended for us.  Sometimes it's our only option if we want anyone to get any sleep.  They have come in handy a few times over this last week.  We can't seem to shake the sick bug at our house Crying

  • I know this wont help for tonight but OUAC has a bunch of sleep wedges-- I bought one there for Nicholas to try and help him w/ his reflux when he was a newborn. It might be worth buying 2 if it will help. Usually they have things on each side so the baby cant somehow roll/move off the wedge. HTH!

  • I'd try the car seat too.  It's NMS either, but a friend of ours had their LO in it up until 4 mos.

Would you want to buy a FP rock n' play sleeper?  I just got mine last week and DS is loving it.

    DS loves his too.

  • DD slept in hers for naps but I was always right there.  She did slip down in it so I never used it at night.  What about bouncers?  DD slept in hers at night sometimes.  It's not as confining as the carseats and they're still upright.
  • I just wanted to say I third the FP rock and sleep sleeper.  Friends of mine have used it and I really wish they would have had that contraption out when my son was a baby.  I plan to get that next time around.

Feel better, Emily and Abby!  I know DS just had a terrible cold and now I have it...it is amazing how much a cold debilitates you.

  • I did it with Jacob for a long time in his PNP which was in our room and also in his crib for awhile until he got too big.  I did have one of those wedges to put under the sheets, but it was useless and he kept sliding down.  I was worried about him aspirating since he spit up so much with his reflux, so I did it.  Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

  • It definitly says not to let the baby sleep in a boppy because they can slip down in the middle as others said. However, Lily was terribly congested when she was born and would only sleep on someone's chest or on her boppy. While in the hospital I slept ZERO and she slept on my chest. When we came home, she slept in her boppy in our bed between us for the first six weeks. We were very lucky nothing happened, but it was the only way any of us got to sleep at night. You have to do what works for you and your family.
  • We did this with DS and we had him swaddled and never once did he slide down until he was unswaddled and then we stopped using it.  We did it for congestion and reflux.  With that said though, I did a lot with both mine that most mommies don't do including letting them sleep with bumpers on their beds and on their bellies.  Do what you feel comfortable with?  I also agree that I never let my kiddos sleep in their carseats but it works for some parents :)  I say do whatever you feel comfortable with! Hang in there and YES I am ready for spring! I am tired of illnesses!!
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!
