Infertility

Got my IVF meds yesterday

I got my big 'ol box of meds yesterday. I was like a little kid at Xmas. I kept checking the window for the FedEx guy. I knew there would be a lot. I unpacked everything and just stared at it for a little while. Then I cried. Sometimes I still can't believe this is my life. Then I looked at all those needles:(. Then I thought holy craaaap...all this stuff is going in me!!!! I still don't know about the whole mixing meds thing (Menopur), but the nurse said each drug gets taught to me as I use it. She said the good news is that I already know Gonal-F and Lupron. Yikes, I know this will all be worth it in the end, but it's still scary. Oh, sorry for the long paragraph; I am on my iPad.

Re: Got my IVF meds yesterday

  • Oh, one more thing. Why do DH and I have to take the antibiotic (doxy)? I know RE told me but my brain is on overload... I also have to take other pills too (Medrol).

  •  It's definitely overwhelming, but I'm sure your nurse will do a good job of explaining them all to you. My DH never took antibiotics, but I was on doxy after my ER to prevent infection. The medrol is to suppress your immune system, thus preventing your body from rejecting the embies after ET. It also it very bitter, do not take with water. When do you start stims?

  • I know it can all feel overwhelming, but just take it one step at a time! Mixing the menopur is no big deal at all. You'll be a pro in no time. As for the antibiotic, my RE just told me it was standard protocol. Basically more preventative, I guess. GL!

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

Thanks..I start Lupron Friday 2/11 (cd21). I'm not sure when I will start stims. Do you usually start them with AF? AF is supposed to be due on the 18th but Lupron always delays my cycles for at least 5 days. So I'm not sure if I'll start on 2/18(cd28) or if my RE will make me wait till AF shows.

  • Eeek!  How exciting!  (And I'm sure I will cry when I get my box too...)

I will be on doxy as well, and my DH is already on it every day but for another reason (so I'm not sure if they'd have him increase his dose, or..?)  Guess I'll find out.

  • That big box is intimidating for sure-  mixing the menopur is super easy with the q-caps in the box.  And the shots really aren't that bad.  It's mostly mental  :)  you can do it!

  • I agree with everyone else.  It looks overwhelming at first, but it is so much easier than you would expect.  Good luck to you!

My RE makes me wait until I am on Lupron for 10 days before I can start stims.  I have my baselines that day and if all is well I begin the stims.

Good luck!  It's incredibly overwhelming but once you get in the routine you will be a pro :)

  • So exciting! Good luck!!
