I've worked here for 4.5 years, "annoying co-irked" has been here about 15 yrs. We are located in the back of the hospital and see VERY few patients... however she INSIST it is my job to know where EVERYone is located in this HUGE hospital. So... here's what happened.
LP (lost patient): where's ____ dept?
Me: I'm sorry, I don't know. There's an info desk at the end of this hall, or you can pick up any phone in the hallway and press 0 for the operator.
LP: oh, ok. thank you. (walks away)
AC: (annoying coirker) Ya know, you should really know where these depts are, it'd be VERY useful to people.
Me: Yeah, that's nice. But I'm REALLY busy with these op notes and other stuff. THAT'S why we have an info desk. Let them do their job, and I'll do mine.
AC: Well.. that's just rude and unhelpful to that patient.
Me: ::rolls eyes:: whatever, I'm a rude_bitch_then who doesn't give a crap.
AC: (walks away).
Re: annoying co-irker!
Sorry...I tend to agree with her. You've been there 4 1/2 years and don't know where the departments are in the building you work in. Ya...I realize it is a hospital but come on. When I worked at a doctor's office I had to know where every pharmacy, lab, physical therapy facility, specialty doctors' offices, and medical supply companies were in the whole city. It is just a courtesy to the patient that asks. It will reflect better on you if you learn where the departments are. Obviously you cannot possibly know where each person is...but the departments are fairly easy (especially those that a patient would ask for).
I do wonder, though, if your coworker heard the exchange why she didn't volunteer the information?
Hopefull- I know where the MAIN things are....the clinics, pharm, cafeteria, parking garage, radiology, ER, stuff like that. But dept. offices are different. They are scattered everywhere.
That's the other thing-- she didn't even step up and say "oh it's over here." I told them if they would provide a map I'd be happy to tell people, but they said no, I need to just figure it out. So I said eff it then I don't care.
