Cloth Diapering

hybrid options

We visited a cloth diaper store this weekend, well it was an open house at a wearhouse because there is not anywhere local to go get a hands on experience. We have decided we would like to cloth diaper once he is out of newborns, should he be small enough for newborns (or at least until the cord falls off). From the ones she showed us, my DH felt the most comfortable with the hybrid system. We liked the GroVia all in ones, so with that info, what do you ladies like? I am rather new new at all this but I have read the FAQ on here and have been trying to get plenty of reading time so I think I know what we are in for but would like to know other options. TIA just in case I don't get computer time this week (we were out of school 4 days last week).

Re: hybrid options

  • I'm not a Grovia fan, because I dislike how the insert fit when she was smaller. It tends to have to be pushed down and folded in odd ways because it's big. It's also not stay-dry, which I like. They also run a bit small, IMO, and I'm not sure how long they'd fit her (our Grovia is our emergency diaper that's kept in the diaper bag.) Although the AIOS are NOT a hybrid. They are the most like disposables, though.

I do like Softbums for a hybrid. The Omni can be used as either a hybrid or a pocket. The Echo is just a hybrid.

If you want easy of use, a pocket is probably the most like an AIO, but faster drying.

  • I'm really happy with the GroVia system.  Review in siggy on the Adventures in CD page (not the same review as above poster linked).

  • I love our grovia's!  We didn't start CDing until 13.5 months, so I can't say how I like it for a smaller baby, but right now it works great.  I like that there is less to wash and less to carry around.  I like the snap in and waterproof backed inserts.  The snap covers are my favorite; I think I am going to sell our velco.

I don't like that it isn't stay dry but it doesn't seem to bother DD.  It also stains easily which seems to be common for natural fibers.  I also think that the inserts are very expensive and take awhile to dry.

I also really like the flip system.  I find myself reaching for that more and more these days!  I just bought some more covers and stay dry inserts off of spots.

This.  They usually need an extra 20 minutes in the dryer after I take out all the other inserts and diapers.

  • She did show us the Flips and I like them too. Thanks for the info about the Grovia taking longer in the dryer, that is a little important to me. I am checking out the spreadsheets now, THANKS ladies!

  • I am in sweet sweet love with my GroVia AIO. We've used it twice, and both times he felt so much dryer around his waist and back than anything else we own. It's also so much softer, and has a nice stretchy higher rise than a lot diapers. I don't own the Hybrid though.
