Stalling Labor...

I have heard a lot of people have had a failure to progress while contractions remain strong and get closer together.  I was reading about this last night and came across a lot of articles about scar tissue on the cervix.  I guess cervical procedures like cryo and leep are becoming more common due to better testing/diagnosis.  Supposedly, this is leading to more issues with scar tissue and failing to progress...ultimately leading to more c-sections.  I have had the cryo procedure done, but it was never mentioned to me that this may affect my labor and delivery.

Anyone have any input or info on this?  I will be asking my MW tomorrow...

Re: Stalling Labor...

  • Not sure if its true or not, but I've had 2 colposcopies. Not sure if that added to my stalling out or if its just a coincidence. Please update with what your midwife says.

  • I will!! I can tell you that I have read some articles by doulas and MW's that said to be sure to tell your OB and nurses your history.  In some cases, they can massage or break the scar tissue during labor.  I also read that EPO can help prior to labor, but massage or breaking it may still be necessary.  HTH!! Good luck...

  • I've had cryotherapy done twice (about 10 years ago and then maybe 7 years ago).  I just gave birth to my second baby with absolutely no complications from the cryo, both were med-free, quick deliveries.  But my cryo wasn't extensive, so I don't think it left major scarring.

  • I am kind of interested to hear more...I've had a LEEP, so I am wondering. Haven't personally experienced labor yet of course, so I have no idea if this will be an issue.

I've read a few articles about this. They can typically massage it and break up the scare tissue and things are able to progress. It was interesting and I have a little mental note to ask the doc to check that out if I stall out.
