Help with nausea.. Any suggestions??

I never had any with DS.. This pregnancy...different story!
I get nauseous late in the day and it goes until evening, followed by a killer headache. It seems no matter what I eat (and not much sounds good) I feel sick. Tylenol is doing little to help with the headaches.. I get more than enough water.
Gingerale helps a little and so do Tums.. Any other suggestions on what helped you?? A friend suggested peppermint tea..but the thought makes me gag. TIA.. You ladies always have great suggestions and advice!

  • They are a little expensive, but Preggie pops really helped me.  They have them at Motherhood and I've heard Target.  I liked the sour fruit the best:

  • Anything with ginger helped me a ton when I was pregnant with Georgia. Ginger snaps, Ginger ale ( make sure to get the kind that actually does have real Ginger in it!) and the Ginger salad dressing like they serve at benihana- I really liked the makato brand. I lived off that stuff for quite a while:) oh and green tea also seemed to help sometimes. Hope you figure out what works for you soon.

  • I feel for you! I still get sick!! I was on Zofran & then phenergen for awhile to keep it under control so I did not get so dehydrated. I couldn't keep anything down.

My saving GRACE has been a tablet of unisom & vitamin B6 - if for some reason, I do not take it, I'm in a world of trouble. For awhile the only thing, I could hold down were smoothies. Usually if I could get one in my tummy I was "o.k." to at "least" function. Pretzels/Crackers sprite were next on my list. Jolly Ranchers helped when it was really bad at work & I was trying not to puke on clients.

I hope you feel better REALLY soon! I swear by the Unisom & B6 though!

  • Sour things helped me, so things like sweet tarts, sour patch kids.  Mints also helped as well and eating a little throughout the day rather than larger meals.  For headaches I drank a coke.  That was the only caffeine I drank and having one would help get rid of the headaches.  Hope you feel better.
  • I will be the first to tell you that I HATE taking medicine for anything I don't have to.  So I tried with every fiber of my being to avoid taking anything for nausea.  I will tell you my experience & you can take it or leave it.  I tried all of the stuff everyone had told me.  I work with oncology patients so I know all of the tricks.  Nothing worked.  On the rare occasion the lemon heads worked. I don't like complaining because I don't like listening to other whiney people do it all of the time. lol So I try my hardest not too because I am extremely thankful for this pregnancy, but I have been absolutely miserable 95% of the time.

First it was the nausea and then with the headaches that eventually turned into horrible migraines.  The doctor prescribed Zofran (dissolving tabs) for me and it did help with the nausea instantly.  The problem & sorry if it's TMI but in turn I got horribly constipated.  I have been so sick this pregnancy that I have lost somewhere in the ballpark of 10-15 pounds and only gained 2lbs back so far.  People don't like to hear that but trust me, it's not exactly what I had planned either.  We have a high deductible plan so the Zofran dissolving tabs are expensive but my hematologist which is also one the docs I work with told me that the non-dissolving ones are on the $4 list at some pharmacies if price is an issue.

So my advice is before it gets too bad call your ob & ask for something like Zofran to help.  For me the migraines have been far worse than the throwing up.  Your headaches could be related to your blood sugar levels if you're really only getting them when you can't eat so the Zofran would help those as well.  Good luck & sorry this was so long! lol

  • I experienced awful constipation with Zofran like Rachel so I stopped taking it. Maybe it's just me, but I'd take nausea and vomiting over that any day.

For me, what helped the most was eating protein. Since I couldn't eat much of anything, I had to be very specific about what I ate. A spoonful of peanut butter and a cheese stick were my go to snacks to keep something in my stomach.

I hope it passes quickly for you!

Rachel, reading this made me miserable for you! I am hoping for one of those pregnancy miracles for you where you hit the middle of the second tri and suddenly feel like a healthy, glowing goddess! Hang in there!

  • Ditto PP. Protein made a huge difference for me. Yogurt, cottage cheese and mild cheddar and crackers were about all I ate for the first trimester. I hope you feel better!
