For those of you whose LO is on Prevacid solutab, when you cut the pill in half do you save the other half for later?
Our pharmacist said that as soon as the pill is opened I should throw out the other half because it starts to break down. Our GI specialist said it should be fine to save the other half and use it by the next day. So...? Right now we are throwing out the other half, but I am curious to hear what you do. If you do keep it, how do you store it until you're ready to give next dose?
Thanks!
Re: Using the whole Prevacid solutab
It does begin to break down, but it is so minimal... We use it the next night. There is no reason to toss it if you are giving it the next day.

Compounded prevacid is not recommended by my GI specialist. I've also read many people do not have success with the compounded. The pill spitting is easy if you have a cutter...
Not sure why they would not recommend it. DS#1 was on the solutabs and our GI agreed that your dosing is ever as exact, since the pills dont split evenly (even with the splitter - which we used). However, they didn't offer a compound then. DS#2 was started on the compounded in the NICU per the instructions of his GI. My FIL is a pharmacist and has never mentioned a difference (and he is very involved in DS's treatment since he was on so many meds at one time). Did your GI say why he didn't like it?
