3rd Trimester

Anyone have little red spots on stomach?

I think it's just burst blood vessels.  My hubby gets something similar on his face after he throws up and sometimes I notice them on my skin, but I looked at my stomach today and they are all over.

Anyone talk to their Dr.s about this?  I'm not too worried, I would think it's just from my stomach growing, but wanted to know if anyone knew if it meant something else. (hope I'm not growing too fast!)

And they are not raised bumps, they are not itchy at all.  Just small flat red spots, look like freckles just red.

Re: Anyone have little red spots on stomach?

  • I just noticed a few of these myself. I agree, I think they look like burst blood vessels. ( I have had a lot of experience with those around my eyes and on my eyelids due to the amount of puking I have been doing :( But, I have no idea what it's caused by on my belly or if they mean anything. I would *think* it would be due to stretching, but am not sure. I am interested to see...Thanks for asking this..

  • Not on my stomach. But I had super itchy boobs the other day, and I scratched, and then I got a bunch of red dots. That looked like little blood dots. I'm sure I've scratched my boobs before in my life, and this has never happened. So I'm chalking it up to increase in blood, and hormones, and whatever else.

I'd bet you're fine. But I want to see what other people say too. haha.

  • I've had a few red, baby blood spots on my belly all pregnancy... not disturbing and not too many, but noticeable to me. I've attributed mine to additional blood volume (it came before my skin stretched too much). I called it ebola when it first appeared, but I've been told I have a flair for the dramatic. :)

I missed how far along you are, but I think blood volume peaks somewhere around 28-30 weeks, so maybe you had a surge in your blood recently. Advice: don't pick at them. They will go away or not get worse if you leave them alone, but I got a little too curious about one of them and now it's always there, taunting me.

  • I asked my OB about some I have on my hand and arm.  She pushed on one to make sure it blanched (it did) and said they are very normal in pregnancy.  Like pp's said, they are due to increased blood volume.

  • My week 34 "progress report" says:

If you notice itchy red bumps or welts on your belly and possibly your thighs and buttocks as well, you may have a condition called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP for short). Up to one percent of pregnant women develop PUPPP, which is harmless but can be quite uncomfortable. See your practitioner so she can make sure it's not a more serious problem, provide treatment to make you more comfortable, and refer you to a dermatologist if necessary. Also be sure to call her if you feel intense itchiness all over your body, even if you don't have a rash. It could signal a liver problem.

  • The folks I've heard discussing PUPPPS all seem to mention how uncomfortable it is, but probably worth a quick read about it to set your mind at ease. From what I read, it sounds like no fun.

I really don't think it is.  I'd heard of PUPPPS before I saw the red spots, but I also googled it after I saw the bumps and I'm pretty sure it's not.  Unless it gets worse, starts to itch or anything like that, I'm not going to worry about it and just mention it at my next appt. on the 14th.

I was just curious if anyone else had it and had talked to Dr. about it.  =)
