XP: clomid+follistim ... any experiences to share???

i have done a few clomid cycles, and 1 follistim cycle ... 'good' response, in that i had multiple follies each time ... but no pregnancy.at my age, and with all my bad numbers - RE suggested IVF.  unfortunately, it isn't really an OOP option for us (especially not with a success rate of 20% for my age). so the RE has moved to clomid + follistim.  i turn 42 next month, so i am giving us until the summer ... and this protocol seems to be the end of the road if we aren't doing IVF.  so i would love to hear about experiences ... good/bad/indifferent?tia ...

I hope you don't mind me responding.  I am 39 with boderline FSH and very low AMH and my husband has 0% morph and low motility.  We were advised  by multiple docs to do IVF again.  Financially that isn't an option for us so I pushed for IUIs and finally found a RE who was willing to go ahead with an aggressive approach. 

I am a very poor responder and was on maximum doses of meds for my IVF and still only produced 7 eggs.  So, when we returned to IUI my RE prescribed a very high dose of Femara (12.5 per day).  The first cycle I only produced one egg so the next we added in some Follistim (150 on days 8-10).  That really seemed to help and I produced four follicles, three of which were probably mature when I triggered.  That cycle I got pregnant.

I just want to give you some hope that IUI may still work for you and that at least for me the combination of Femara and Follistim seemed to do the trick.

My IUI cycle that worked (#3) was my first clomid + follistim cycle. It worked great for me, much better than clomid alone. I triggered the earliest with this cycle (CD 12 or 13 I think? opposed to CD 16 or 18 on clomid alone), and had the most follies (produce 1 on 50 mg clomid, 2 on 100 mg clomid, and 3 with 50mg clomid + 75 units of follistim on cd 4, 6, & 8). It gave us our BFP. When we cycle again this spring we will start with the samae protocal.
