Connor's birth story...
On Tuesday January 25th Annie was 40 weeks and 5 days pregnant. She went to Dr. Clayton to check her status, 2 cm dilated and no signs of imminent labor. Dr. Clayton decided to strip Annie's membranes at 3:00p to try to induce labor, and scheduled an induction for February 1st in case she didn't deliver by then...
She started feeling very light cramping at 11:45p that night, and by 12:15a she knew that this might be the start of labor. Nick began timing her contractions at 12:45a as they seemed to be too intense and close together. To their surprise the contractions were 50 sec long and about 3 min apart. Annie had always wanted to stay at home for as long as she could before going to the hospital, until the 5-1-1 (contractions every 5 min, lasting 1 min, for a continuos hour), but she seemed to have skipped that stage so Nick decided it was time to go to the hospital and so they went. They arrived at Hoag hospital at 2:30a, Annie was checked at 3:00a with 2 cm dilation but because of her strong and frequent contractions she was told she would be checked again at 4:00a. At that check Annie was found to be 4 cm dilated and was officially admitted into the hospital. The contractions were very strong and close together, Annie, although hesitant, decided that she could not bear the pain for many hours of labor so she asked for an epidural. At 4:30a the epidural prep team arrived at which point the delivery nurse decided to check her one more time, to everyone's surprise Annie was 8 cm dilated, at hearing this Annie decided she no longer wanted an epidural as second stage labor was a lot closer than anyone expected. Soon Annie began getting the urge to push and began at her next set of contractions. At 5:15a Connor's head began to be visible at the peak of contractions so Dr. Clayton was called in. Just 34 minutes later Connor Nicolas was delivered, 7 lbs 15 oz and 20.5 in. Everyone in the room amazed that a first time mom delivered a beautiful healthy boy in approximately 5 hours of total labor.
