what to do for a fever

DD has a fever. I think it's a reaction from her vaccines from last week b/c she doesn't have any other symptoms. Her temp was 100.6 when I first checked about half an hour ago, and now it's 101.9.

I'm waiting on a call back from the pedi, but just wondering what you all usually do.

  • Stagger Tylenol and Motrin, push fluids and a lukewarm bath if they'll tolerate it.  I feel your pain, my DS has a bad cold and fever and it's no fun for anyone.

  • If her temp gets above 101, I give her Motrin (or Tylenol, but I think Motrin works more quickly and lasts longer) and then give her a lukewarm bath. Typically, just the bath itself will bring her temp down by a degree.

  • Also, dress her warmly, but don't overdress her. Maybe a cotton sleeper vs a fleece sleeper.

  • I wouldn't worry too much as that is a pretty low-grade fever for a toddler.  I usually don't call the pedi until it is around 103, but we've dealt with some crazy fevers. I would just give some Tylenol, but that's about it. Just keep an eye on your LO. Fevers aren't fun!

  • Give some tylenol or motrin. We give it even for lower fevers when LOs are cranky esp at night if it is affecting their ability to sleep/calm down to sleep (I wouldn't normally if it is low but MH gets a bit frantic about fevers and will say LO is "burning up" when they have like 100.6 temp...). We're on constant lookout for ear infections symptoms though, as both kids have had multiple EIs.

We only call pedi for well above 101, more like 102 or so unless the fever goes on for a few days, they seem super uncomfortable, we can't get it down w/ meds & bath, etc.
