Sears registry... is this true?

My coworker just told me that they had a baby shower for her friend, who was registered at Sears. When the baby was actually born on the EDD, Sears gave her EVERYTHING on her registry for free!

(I guess since she already had the stuff from the shower, they offered her a voucher for the full value of everything.)

Have you ever heard of this?

  • I just looked it up on the Sears Canada website and it's actually true! You enroll in something called the Waiting Game Club, no purchase necessary. Induced births and c-sections excluded. Looks like a Canadian thing though, not sure if there's something similar in the US.

  • I think the number of people that actually have their baby ON the EDD is very low (besides planned C's and inductions, etc) so I could see this happening!

  • My sister registered with Sears about 4 years ago and it didn't happen to her. I say myth. If people knew that was true they would create giant registries of things they probably didn't need.

When I made my wedding registry, we got huge discounts on anything that was left after the date. (That was the Bay).

I've been told that the percentage of women who deliver on the EDD is less than 5%.

But the baby has to be born on the actual EDD.

I was typing and got a call mid-post...Apparently you guys figured it out and I didn't see that until after I posted...damn you telephone! The real irony...it was someone from the Sears credit card department!

  • Here's some exact wording from the link PP provided. Looks like you only get store credit up to the value of all the apparel items already purchased on your registry. And you can only use the credit towards more apparel, no cribs and strollers.

"If the last valid predicted date registered is the exact date of your baby's arrival, you will be issued Sears KidVantage Waiting Game Club Apparel Merchandise Coupons in the net amount of the total purchases (purchases less returns and adjustments) of Children's Wear and Maternity Fashions (rounded up to the closest five dollars, including taxes) which have been properly registered to you beginning from the date of registration up to and including 7 days before the predicted date of your baby's arrival. Purchases made within 7 days of the baby's arrival are not eligible. Purchases made from a Sears Clearance Centre, Outlet Store, or Outlet On-line are not eligible."

  • I don't know about the Sears thing.

I just had to let Ring Pop know that my cat Buster looks like he could be your cat's sibling!! Soo cute!
