Alright, so these types of names have been more my husband's style lately. I am not sold on it at ALL, however, I am trying REALLY hard to be negotiable. I figure if I look into some names and kind of have a small list of ones I don't totally hate, I will at least appear to be working with him. I know there's a 90% chance in the end I will get my own way but I want to at least try for him. I would be so mad if I had some names (or naming style) and he even refused to discuss it. And who knows, maybe if I end up liking one we can use it for a middle name and then he will be happy.
Whether you love it or hate it, can you add to my list? Thanks, will help me out alot!
(PS. Names I put I am just assuming are supposid last names, I could be wrong!)
GIRLS & BOYS NAMES (in no order)!
Walker
Anderson
Jamison
Presley
Parker
Carter
Taylor
Sawyer
Re: Haters & Lovers of "last name for a first name" Please come in!
I'm sure you know I dislike this trend. With that being said, I will add:
Abraham
Blair
Bennett
Bryson
Grant
Preston
Scott
Tanner
Tyler
Warren
Wesley
Wyatt
May I suggest browsing through Behind the Surname for more ideas?
Honestly, I think if you want to use a surname it should be from your own family. Just randomly picking a surname is kinda weird IMHO.
I would suggest looking at both of your family trees to see if there are any surnames there you would want to use.
We named DS Cooper after my grandma's maiden name. We may use Lane for our next kid (my mom's maiden name).
Anderson is another one I really like on DH's side
Clearly, I love Carter best of your choices
I absolutely LOVE surnames for boys. I think that's mostly because our last name is a first name so I think it sounds really cool that DS name is Carter
Some other ones I love are..
Lincoln (though I wouldn't pick this for baby #3 b/c I don't want people to think I'm naming my kids after Presidents
Harper
Reid (Which IS my next boys name)
Carter Robert 7.18.08 | Brynn Sophia 5.24.10 | Reid Joseph 9.10.12 | Emerson Mae 1.27.14
I actually really like some of them, for both girls and boys. But I do appreciate them more if they are family names.
Lane is a family name on H's side and I love it.
Here's some others I can think of:
Afton. Greer. Briley. Campbell. Gray. Payton. West. Parker. Auden. Bailey. Cameron. Daley. Holland. Jansen. Lake. Landry. Logan. Meredith. Quinn. Reese. Scout. Shae. Sloan. Wesley. Anson. August. Baird. Brecken. Bryce. Hunt. Lennon. Macon. Madden. Reid. Tate. Xavier.
Cooper
Turner
Porter
Ford (like this for a middle name, not 1st)
I agree! Even if you have to go back several generations to find one you like, this strategy makes a surname much more meaningful as a fn.
Baby Name Popularity by State
Really like Sawyer for a boy, but it doesn't work for us.
Harrison
Sullivan
Hudson
Love Emerson and Riley.
I love this trend... however, this is my issue with it (and it may be a little silly). I always think, what if the girl meets and marries someone whose last name is her first name? Maybe she will want to keep her last name, but what if she wants to take his? And ends up "Riley Riley..."
I'm also a fan of this, trend or otherwise. Off the top of my head, I like:
Davis
Lincoln
Griffin
Graham
Gibson
Parker
Wyatt
Landon
Jones
In DH's daycare there is a Locke and a Boone - wasn't sure what to think at first, but they're growing on me - probably just because I "know" them now, though
I agree with this, if you're gonna go with a last name make it your maiden name or another name from your family. Otherwise its just any random name and defeats the purpose of choosing a name this way.
williamson
harrison
miller
ellison
davis
crawford nn ford
LOL, really? I hope they are not related because those are two character names from Lost.
i apologize if it's already here, i didn't look.
cohen
hunter
bennett
carson
I feel really bad for that little girl...
None of those names work for girls.
I like Anderson (though prefer Anders) and Jameson spelled correctly. While I'm not huge on LNs as FNs, I like them much better on boys. Lincoln and Sullivan are two of my favorites. Murray, while not strictly a LN, kind of bridges the gap.
Mostly, I don't like the -er names, and in general I don't like the -son names (though I do like the above-mentioned ones).
I agree with this. There are some surname names I like, but my DH HATES the idea of using a surname as a first or middle name. He says "that's not a name" every time I suggest one! He did agree that if I went with a super-duper first name sounding name like "James" he would consider going with a surname from our actual family tree like Cota, Thompson or Elkin.

I have no problem with using surnames as first names - DD's name is Chandler MacKenzie - my mom had a fit cause she says she has three last names!
DH's name is Harper, his grandmother's maiden name.
I'm a fan of this trend. Here are a few more that I like:
Manning
Marshall
Jameson (I know you already have this one)
Jackson
Emerson
and my sons middle name is Lincoln so I like that one as well!
Some I have heard (not sure if they are repeats)
Fletcher
Harrison
Holden
Preston
Pierce
Hunter
Also, my friends named their DS Pierson. Not something I would ever choose for my own child, but I thought it was kind of cute on him.
