pillow in crib?

Raquel is 18 months old and we recently allowed her to have some blankies in her crib and she seems to do fine with them. We went to Target today and she fell in love with one of those pillow pets so I bought it for her. I wouldn't allow it in her crib because it kinda freaked me out. What do you allow in your LO's crib?

Re: pillow in crib?

  • Sydney doesn't have any blankets in her crib, but she does have a little pillow. It is just like a regular pillow, except 1/2 the size. She loves it. She lays on her belly on it with most of her chest and her head on it.

We also have one of the ones you described. I guess that would be fine too. I only worried about Sydney the first time I let her nap with one. She is old enough to adjust it if she needs to and she does.

  • IDK. Mikey's still in a sleep sack and I have no idea when we'll introduce pillows and blankets.Embarrassed

In fact, he doesn't know what to make of blankets. I've been trying to bundle up with him under a throw blanket since he's sick and he throws it off.

  • Michael has a stuffed dog and frog from his cousins, a bear that makes different white noises, a glow worm, and a giraffe lined up at the end opposite of the one that I put his head.  No pillow yet.  And when I did put a blanket in there, all he did was get all tangled up.

  • From Day 1, Charlie's had blankets in his crib.  I figured, with the motion detector monitor, if he gets in trouble, we'll catch him quick.  Never been a problem, but I do worry when he chews on stuff when he's sleepy.  (That's why at 15 months, I still use the monitor!)    So he's very used to having soft things in his crib.

I think at 18 months, she's probably fine to have something.  But if you're squeamish about it, just give her the pretty pillow as a toy out in the living room, etc.

  • Matt sleeps with my Boppy - he snuggles up with it and a blanket.  I thought after one year blankets and pillows were okay?

  • Sienna doesn't use blankets, she would just throw it off.I do actually keep one draped on her crib rail to keep it warmer in the crib & sometimes it comes down but it's small. About a month ago I bought her a pillow from Bed Bath Beyond that is made for LO's. It's hypo-allergenic & I don't remember what else was so great about it. It's not really firm. I first just had her use it for her nap until I felt comfortable enough to let her use it all night. Most of the times by morning she's at the foot of the bed. She does look so comfy on it.

What DON'T I allow?  I posted a picture of Simon's ghetto crib a while back, he has toys, blankie, binkies, books, pillow pet, stuffed animals, mobile and other musical toys.  He loves his crib!
