I didn't but my OB did a c/s before she delivered my daughter and the time before that the OB did a c/s right after they delivered my son.. I think if your OB is busy in surgery you would get the on call OB for vaginal deliveries but not for the c/s.
My OB performed my c-section. The procedure itself was fairly quick, maybe half an hour, start to finish (could have been longer or shorter...I was pretty out of it after being in labor for 20+ hours.) The wait for an ER was the worst part about it for me. I had to wait more than two hours and my epidural had been turned down earlier so I could push. I think there was an emergency or something so I tried to be understating but OUCH! I was in no mood to wait any longer! But overall, I had a pretty good experience at Christ. Best wishes to you!

I had 2 c-sections at Christ. Both were done by my OB. The first was an unplanned c-section after 14 hours of labor. The second was scheduled. I had great experiences at the hospital. The staff was really nice. I had the same anesthesiologists for both my sections and they both remembered me from my first one which was about 3.5 years prior. That really put me at ease for my second one. It was a much different experience going into a scheduled c-section versus an unplanned one after having labored and pushed for a while.
The surgery lasted about 45 minutes. The first part goes really quickly. Before you know it, you'll start hearing the baby crying and lifting he/she over the drape. The nurses take the baby to a station behind your head but there's a mirror positioned so that you can watch everything they do. DH went over with them and once they had checked her and cleaned her up he brought her over to me and I kissed her. Then they took her up to the nursery for more tests and a bath and DH went with them.
I think the second part seems much slower, especially once they take the baby away. I got really anxious during this time with my first c-section so I told the doc/anesthesiologist about that for my 2nd one and they said they'd give me something to help me through that part. Whatever they gave me worked wonders. During my 1st, I kept asking the doc when he was going to be done. During my 2nd, I could have laid there all day and wouldn't have cared.
Once they were all done they wheeled me into recovery and DH was already there with the baby as was my mom and MIL. At that time, I held the baby and she nursed for the first time. I stayed in recovery for probably about 2 hours and then they wheeled me to my room. I ended up staying in the recovery room a little bit longer than normal because I was starting to feel discomfort from the incision as the spinal wore off. They gave me pain meds (Demerol) which I did not like.
Once I got to my room I slept on and off all day and then kind of woke up feeling really great at about 6:00 PM when I starting eating some of the lemon ice things that we ordered from the cafeteria. Be warned, you will not be allowed to eat anything after the surgery until you've passed gas. For me, that wasn't until in the middle of the night so I had to go the entire delivery day without eating. But I was able to drink liquids.
Try to get up and move around as soon as you can. They won't take the catheter out for 24 hours so you won't be able to get up until that comes out but as soon as it is, get up and walk. Have the nurses help you because the first time you try to walk, you'll be shaky and it will be difficult. The more you move around though, the quicker you'll start feeling more like yourself.
