Does this make me a bad mom?

Go ahead and judge :)

DD watches TV (typically Wilbur, which is a TLC show about a cow who reads books) in the morning (for like 15 min) and at night when she winds down before bed (typically Pooh, for about 25 min).

She is 20 months old (new nest stole my ticker).

I feel really bad, but she got in the habit of Pooh when she was really sick (ER for dehydration) and I haven't tried really hard to end it.  In the morning it is just helpful when we are all getting ready.

  • My child watches more tv than that. I could care less what people think about it. Rock on!

  • I think there are far worse things to make you a bad mom.  DS watches an episode of Little Einsteins in the mornings while DH and I get ready and then he watches it again when we get home so I can cook dinner.

  • I don't think so, but I'm not one that thinks television is the "devil" either.  My 3 year old has ALWAYS watched tv.  It's always on a channel like NOGGIN as background or he has one of his Thomas DVDs in.
  • I don't think it makes you a bad mom at all..She enjoys it and it gives her something to do while you are getting ready.  If you were plopping her down in front of it all day or even for hours then I would see more of a problem.

  • No way does that make you a bad mom!  My DD watches more than that, and honestly she has learned quite a bit from the shows she watches.  She loves The Wiggles, and she does the Rock a Bye Bear song when you sing it to her.  She can match colors and stuff like that.  I really think that as long as children are watching good developmental shows, there is nothing wrong with it.
  • What is wrong with that?  DD didn't watch tv until 2 because she wasn't interested in it, but now she watches about an hour a day.  She spend 2 hours running around at the park this morning and has a play date at 4pm, and is going to the store with me in 15 minute, so now she is eating lunch watching Little Bear.  She eats better watching tv than not, and she is underweight, so that is a good thing.

I think a little TV is a good thing.  DD really enjoys it and she likes to pretend to be Dora and Swiper and  enjoys singing the songs she learns on there.  She does lots of other activities, not a problem for me.

  • If you beat her while she watched Pooh every night, then maybe I'd think you're a bad Mom.  I actually give son from 4 PM - 5 PM each afternoon watching TV while I cook dinner and he watched during breakfast each morning too.  I know some disagree, but I don't see anything wrong with age appropriate shows.
  • Yes - you are a terrible mom - I guess I am too.  DS watches more than that and like another poster said - the TV is usually on in the background while he plays.  Some of his favorite shows are Mickey's Playhouse, Handy Manny Sesame Street, Pooh, Diego, and Wonder Pets.  Which btw, I know all of the lyrics to and sing them all day to myself..Aahh!  Some of these shows are really smart :0)
