My DD will be 5 on April 4th. I want to do something fun and different for her. Do you think that is too young for a sleepover?
The two girls that we would invite over go to my daycare so they are very comfortable with me I just don't know if they are "ready" to spend the night away from home. I talked to one of the moms and she said her daughter would but I haven't asked the other one yet. I know if my DD was asked to sleep over somewhere else she probably wouldnt be able to do it yet. Not sure.
What are your thoughts?
Re: What age for sleepovers?
My DD started having friends over (one friend at a time) for a sleepover when she was just over 3.
I used to have a home daycare and by the time the kids were 3 y/o they were having regular sleepovers ("they" meaning my ds and two little girls the same age as him.) I don't think any of the kids would have been ready for sleepovers with random people at that age, but these three were together 40+ hours a week and were almost like siblings to each other.
By five years old my ds was spending the night with other friends. That being said, ds spends the night 2-3 times a month with his best friend but the friend is nowhere near ready to spend the night with us. We've found that to pretty much uniformly be the case: everyone loves to have ds over to their house for sleepovers but we have yet to meet another 5/6 year old who will spend the night away from their own parents (with the exception of the two girls who I used to watch, they still very regularly spend the night with us.)
So my answer: "regular" 5 year olds may or may not be ready. Five year olds who already attend your home daycare? Sure.
It seems like around here most kids start having sleepovers around 9 or 10ish.
My children's classmates didn't start sleepovers until around 9-10 y.o.
