If you are a runner and still running..

Have you cut back your distance/pace at all so far?

Re: If you are a runner and still running..

  • I cut it back soon after the BFP, more because of my own paranoia than my doctor's advice.  He said I could keep up doing what I was doing before as long as I felt OK.  Previously I was running 3-4 miles at 6-7mph on the treadmill about 4-5 days a week.  Now I'm mostly jogging (5mph) or walking (3-4 mph) and keeping it down to 20-30 mins regardless of the distance.  Still 4-5 days a week.

That said, I know there are many women who keep up the same rigor through much of their pregnancies.  I just don't feel comfortable doing that.

  • I am keeping it mostly the same.  Running 3 miles 2-3x a week outside at my normal pace, running sprints on the treadmill for 3 miles 1x a week, then doing a 6 mile run on the weekend.  Usually I ramp up my longer runs if I am training for something, but since I am not training for a half or anything, I am not worrying about ramping up.  Hope this helps!  PM me if you have any questions :).

  • I had keep up my 5k 3x/week until last week, just slowed it down a little bit and walked when I felt my heartrate getting high.  Unfortunately this week I have started to feel very uncomfortable pressue and sometimes nerve pain in my lower pelvis when running, so I have cut back to 2 miles 3x/week with a walk/jog mix. I am going to ask my doc about the pain at my appointment tomorrow and as long as she is not too concerned I will try to pick up the pace a bit.
  • I slowed my pace a bit and haven't been doing sprint intervals. I also take a couple of walk breaks to keep my heart rate down, whereas I never used to walk.

Honestly I wouldn't mind picking it up a little bit, but I've become pretty uncomfortable lately when running. I feel a lot of pressure in my bladder, even when it's empty.

  • Even when I have trained for half marathons/a marathon in the past, I only ran twice a week.  I was't training right before I got pregnant, but my exercise routine is bootcamp 3 days a week and running on the weekend.  When it it warmer out I would usually try to run a short run in the evening with the jogging stroller and my boys...  I have been maintaining 5 - 6 miles on the weekend (about 45 - 50 min of running) since I have been pregnant.  This is slightly slower than my normal pace.  I usually stop around 3 miles and run to the bathroom since I have to pee constantly and then finish up.  I am hoping to continue as long as I can - but know that eventually the pace/distance will have to be adjusted.  I am happy I have been able to do it this long because I had convinced myself I couldn't run with my first two pregnancies!
