How do you do avocado?

I'm going to give DS some avocado but I'm looking for some tips.  I purchased 4 so I can either slice one each day or puree and freeze.  If you froze, how well did they thaw / reheat?  When you thawed it did LO eat it cold?

If you gave slices, how did LO do?  Or, did you just mash it up like bananas.

I think I'd prefer to freeze so DS can get more variety and eat it over a longer period, but I don't want to puree them all if it doesn't freeze well.

TIA

  • It froze really well for us.  Sometimes she eats it cold and other times I heat it up for just a few seconds.

  • I either mashed it up or cut a few slices. When I sliced it, I coated the outside in cheerio dust so it would be easier for DS to pick up and hold.

  • We pureed it with formula/water and froze a bunch.  She'll have her first thawed batch tonight (it's been in the fridge thawing all day).

This.  Our thawed well in the fridge overnight, but LO didn't like it cold.  He preferred it fresh at room temp mashed with some BM

  • I only buy a few at a time, and with two babies, we eat them pretty fast.  I will say they aren't crazy about them plain.  I've been mixing it with yogurt, and they loooove it.

I'm clueless when it comes to freezing stuff.  So could you walk me through it? Embarrassed

You mash it up, store it in a container, freeze it and then take it out and microwave it when it's time to eat it? Or thaw the container in a bowl of warm water like you do with BM?? Do you put a little water in there before you freeze it?  I just started feeding DD avacado and I just cut it each time and mash it and mix in some water to make it a little more "mushy".  But avacado goes bad so quick that figuring out how to do a bunch at once and freeze it would be great.

    ...I told you, I'm clueless.

  • I just mash it up like a banana and give it to him fresh.  Sometimes, mix with breastmilk, sometimes not.  I freeze it in baby food storage containers (from BRU) and it thaws out nicely.  Turns a little brown, but not bad, and it still tastes the same.  I usually warm it if it's not room temp.

  • Once in awhile slices, mostly mashed on toast or with egg yolk in a sandwich.  That sandwich is one of her favorite lunches.

  • We do wedges and like a PP if it's very ripe we coat in Cheerio dust to make it grippier.

  • I buy one avocado at a time.  I cut off a slice and then refriderate the rest.  The next day I'll cut off a slice and by the time she gets around to eating it, it's warmed up to room temp.  She loves it!!

  • The freezing went well!  The top turned brown and while I know that's fine, I did scrape it off.
