Cincinnati Babies

random (mini) confession

It really bugs me when people say 'kid'.

For example: "How old is your kid?"  "My kid has slept through the night since he was a fetus."  "Your kid isn't really that cute."  "When I have a kid I'm never going to xyz."

I don't know why.  Anything is better than 'kid' though.... child, children, kiddo, little one, etc.  It just gets on my nerves.  I always think in my head "Do you have a child or a baby goat?"

Clearly I have issues.

  • Ha! I'm the opposite.

I feel like "child" and "little one" are best used to describe children who are sweet and innocent which my children are not 95% of the time. My kids usually fall more into the goat category than the sweet and innocent one.

  • I don't usually like the expression either.  It doesn't bother me when it's plural (I have to pick up my kids, how old are your kids, etc.).  I say it every great once in a while (I love that kid), but I'm generally on your wavelength.

You know, it doesn't bother me when it's plural either.  Interesting.

  • Oh, we shouldn't be friends then... I understand if you DD me on fbook... We call C "The Kid" all the time... I think its cute and a term of endearment..

We also call her Chuckles... like the little juicy candies that come in a package of 5... yum

  • Although I never understood why they put 5 in there... I like even numbers, I feel all off when I am done with the package.
  • I use it in jest, as in some my responses below.

My mom hates that too (also makes her think of goats!)  On a related note, my uncle always refers to his son and other boys as "boy."  Makes me cringe!!  I don't think he refers to girls as anything-hmm.  He's just plain wackadoodle!

All my SIL's refer to my husband as Boy or The Boy...he is the only boy with 4 sisters. As a result Nicholas is now often called Boy Jr haha I think it is cute just because of the context but it would be kind of weird to call all men/boys "boy".

@ Hannah-- I cant handle that it makes you think of goats! haha I literally LOL'd when I read that. Now I know what my mental picture is going to be the next time I hear someone use it in that context. Plural doesnt bother me so much either.

When you use big words like "jest", it goes over my head.  Stick out tongue

Sometimes I say things that go over my own head...that's when things get really tricky! :)

  • I have to agree with warrior... kid is usually reserved for days where the child is testing my patience.  Today would be a good example.  Today the only things he knew how to do or say was the exact opposite of what I wanted him to do... stubborn like a goat... kid kinda fits today.

Oh and I love this whole post!  :)

  • I typically use it to describe children who have the charm/manners of a baby goat.

  • In my defense, preteen boys eat like goats.
