Multiples

Is it too soon?

To purchase stroller/car seats? I found a dbl stroller that is compatible with dd's infant seat, and found another dbl stroller with 2 infant seats and bases on craigslist! I bought the 1st stroller for $70 at a baby consignment and the 2nd set is all for $70!! IMO too good a deal to pass up... Wdyt??

Re: Is it too soon?

  • I know that saving money is a great idea when you have multiples, but I wouldn't buy carseats second hand unless you know the people really well and trust them completely that those carseats haven't been in an accident or damaged in any way.  And even then I probably wouldn't personally feel comfortable with it.  It's just not worth it to me.

If you want to go ahead and buy the stroller now, and aren't superstitious about something happening now that you've bought baby gear (I was, and I didn't buy anything until after 20 weeks so I get it), then go for it.  -

  • I don't think it's ever too soon to do anything! Do it all as soon as you can while your feeling good. I tried to get as much done as possible very early on.

Those sound like great deals! Def don't pass up on deals! Save every dime you can cause 2 babies are expensive!Big Smile

  • I'm with leslie. I would use almost anything secondhand, but not cribs and not car seats. There are good, new car seats that aren't that expensive, and you can save money in lost of other areas that won't impact your children's safety.

  • I agree with u both about the car seats, she is selling the stroller and offered to include the car seats. $70 is still a good deal for the stroller alone.

  • I chose not to buy anything during the first trimester. It felt way too soon for me and after previous pregnancy losses, I didn't wan to risk it. I bought the carseats and DSNG during 2nd trimester. I didn't get a "real" stroller until the girls were 7 months old and I had a better grasp of what features I wanted.

I love buying things from CL, however, I wouldn't buy car seats used. You have no way of knowing if they were in an accident. If you do decide to buy them used, ask the owner what the date on them are to make sure they're not expired.

If I were you, I would hold off. There will be more great deals during the coming months and you'll have more time to research what's out there and decide what you want. Don't jump into a purchase you may end up hating.

  • What kind of seat does your daughter have?

I would just wait and get two double snap n go strollers. Those fit most car seats, and you can generally get them cheaper (around $50 - I sold mine for $45 on CL) than $70.

And I personally wouldn't have felt comfortable buying things that early, but that's a personal decision.
