We use cloth diapers part-time because DH is grossed out by CD and basically refuses to deal with a poopy CD, which annoys me to no end. I wanted to CD for environmental reasons.
Yesterday, LO's Target disposable diaper exploded, but DH didn't know it until he changed him. The contents of the diaper (the gel balls and stuff) were all over his skin.
His poor little peen and testicles were cherry red, as well as the skin right around his privates. DH immediately put his parts under running water, called the pedi (who said to use cortizone and keep him diaper free for a couple hours). I put more cream on him last night and he cried so hard, in huge gulps and hiccups. He wouldn't sit down. He's never even had diaper rash before.
He was in CD last night and I put him in one today, and told DH to get the F over his "icky" factor. He's doing better today, but it was pretty clearly a chemical burn. I never want to use disposables again. I want to throw them out the window, write an awful letter to Target, and never look back. We don't have a huge CD stash, so I'm ready to stop at the crunchy store on the way home and buy them out of Blueberry diapers!
DH says it was just one diaper, he feels horrible, but of the thousands of diapers we've used, the odds of it happening again are slim. He wants to switch brands, back to Pampers. I'm not feeling that AT ALL, and I'm angry that he'll even argue the issue with me at this point.
WWYD?

Well, I am a full-time CDer, mostly for health reasons - the cost savings, cute factor and sustainable aspects are just gravy for me. So keep that in mind when I say that I would probably read H the riot act (with a lot of guilt-tripping thrown in: "You want to put our baby at risk of more chemical burns just because it's more CONVENIENT for you?), toss the sposies, and give him no choice but to use CDs.
My DH would never dare to refuse to change diapers just because they weren't the type he likes, so this would work in my house. I am not sure how well it would work for you.
And I'm so sorry your DS is suffering. Poor baby. I hope it clears up soon.

Yeah, that's basically what I did, except I haven't thrown them out yet. He got the "selfish bastard who obviously doesn't care that his son is in PAIN" lecture this morning. Previously, he really didn't get my CD thing, aside from the cute/cushy factor (I love Blueberry Minkies...)
The only reason he's gotten away with this is that he's a SAHD, and he does all the laundry. He doesn't mind the wet ones, but he gets grossed out by the poop sprayer. I don't get it.
With soon to be 2u2, I told DH that I wanted to start using our CD's more. I SAH, so doing a diaper load of laundry every day isn't the end of the world for me, and it will be way cheaper. He's totally disgusted by the idea of a poopy cloth diaper. I agree, poop is poop, but the thought of having to clean a cloth one out before washing it in the machine is just gross to him.
He doesn't know it yet, but we're (he's) compromising... I'm using CD's during the day while he's at work, and we can use disposables while he's home or when we're on trips or out for the day etc.
That's basically what we've been doing; when I'm home, we CD, and if there's poop, I spray it out. He doesn't mind washing the CDs, just the poop cleaning.
To his defense, he has a pretty horrible gag reflex and sometimes throws up when he's changing LO's poop in sposies. He's not making it up, he actually keeps a bucket by the changing table, and I've heard him use it!

I have thrown up while changing DD1's diapers multiple times. I don't think it's that uncommon.

Huh. I never have; that sucks! I thought he was weird. I smell a clicky poll!
It wasn't a poopy diaper though. Just a wet one, with diaper explosion-ness...
Can the same thing happen with pee only? If DH is right, I'm willing to accept compromise (and honestly I'd feel less guilty if the cause wasn't the sposie!).
We've had diapers explode to that extent before (Pampers), but have never had that reaction! Maybe your LO just has a very sensitive bum? Or its possible he just has a VERY bad diaper rash!
I'm sorry LO is in pain! Poor lil guy! Hope he feels better soon!

Oh that poor baby... I am so sorry this happened to him! I have not advice on the diaper situation though, I have always used Pampers and have never had a problem with them. I use the cruisers that come in the purplish package... they are a little more $ than the other ones but I have had really good luck with them.
This is our solution for solid poop. They roll right off the diaper. We use Imse Vimse flushable liners. I simply dump the poop and liner right into the toilet, no spraying needed.
That said, my DH doesn't dig on changing cloth and I don't dig on telling him what to do, so I do most of the changes.
How long was your son in the sposie? I suspect that might have more to do with the burn than the fact that he was in a sposie at all. . . because they don't wick like cloth does, people tend to leave their kids in them much much much longer than they'd ever consider leaving them in a CD. . . so maybe the consistent exposure to urine is what did it?
My Blog
My H changes poopy CDs all the time. If it is a big poop, you are going to likely get poop on you no matter what.
I totally agree w/your reasons for using cloth. I wouldn't switch back to Pampers though- they are famous for chemical burns. I would even suspect if they actually make the generic target brand because that is usually generics get made.
I'm so sorry for your little boy. I hope he feels better soon and you get DH on board.
