Cloth Diapering

How do I know when unbleached prefolds are ready?

I've washed them 4 times on hot and dried in between. We don't have super hot water or a sanitary cycle - it has just been the regular hot cycle. When I pour water on them, I don't get any repelling - but is there a certain amount of water that should be absorbed? They are soft and fluffy.

  • If they are soft, fluffy and have shrunk they are good to go. They will get better with use. Also, just for future reference you can always boil prefolds (or any natural fibers) instead of washing/drying.

Yeah, I started to boil, but when I got out our largest pot and realized it would probably only fit 3 diapers at a time, I decided that it would take me longer to do the 36 diapers than just washing and drying.
