how long before...

you took your little one on his/her first outting? where did you go?

Today I took DD1 and DD2 to the Wild Animal Park here in San Diego.. I was really nervous that I wouldn't be able to handle it but it was so wonderful to get out! it was absolutley beautiful here today I could'nt pass it up Smile went really well and I came home with an exhausted 4 year old and a happy baby.. guess it was a success!

Re: how long before...

  • LO is 5 weeks and the only place we go is to her or my doc. We didn't want to take her out until 6 weeks but we won't to anywhere outdoorsy, it's frigid and icy in NY. We didn't want her in the car seat unnecessarily at such a young age, plus breastfeeding, etc. I really enjoyed spending 5 weeks indoors with her!

  • Luckily, living in Florida, it's a bit easier than most other states to be going out. DS is 2 weeks and so far he's been to a couple restaurants that are about 5 minutes from home, both grandparent's houses (they are within 15 minutes from home), and local sanctuary park. DH's older sister had gotten married when DS was 8 days old, this was an hour car ride away. As terrified as I was, we all handled it extremely well and DS never left my side.

  • We went to the grocery store at a week old. Call me a bad mommy, but no one went anywhere near her. We had the shade up on the carseat and stroller so you couldn't even see her. As for a real outting, we went to downtown Savannah this past weekend... walked around a couple parks and had lunch at JimmyJohns. The weather that day was absolutely gorgeous. LO did great. She was awake the whole time, but no crying :-)
  • After being snowed in for 3 days, we went to his 2 wk appt today and then out to breakfast.  It felt so good to get out.

Wouldn't you know though, some little girl around 4-5 yr. old (crusty food-face and hands) left her table and came all the way around to ours to try and peek in the carrier.  I immediately shut his cover and looked at the mom and said "sorry, but he is only 2 weeks old"  she felt bad and was embarrassed which then I felt bad for the little girl.  No harm done, but I was like seriously??

  • It seems like non stop traveling since LO was 3days old. After leaving the hospital, we spent two nights at my parents because it was closer to the hospital and at day four we had a dr. weigh in in which a little girl came up and touched her... made me nervous, but she hasn't been sick yet (fingers crossed) and then we had to go to the lactation specialist. Then it was the 1.5hr drive home and at day 7 we had to go to town to get some shopping done. Guess my little girl is a born traveler.

  • He's a week old and we left today for the first time to go to the pedi.  My doctor said to take him out whenever now just keep him in the car seat so people don't mess with him and not to take him to places with lots of kids or like a gym daycare.  She said use common sense but that it's not good to hibernate either.  We had a blizzard the past few days so we had no choice but to stay inside.

  • Right after he was born, it was freezing cold-so besides his size, it was just nasty out anyway. It was finally nice weather last weekend, so we took him out for the first time (besides the 2 pediatrician visits previously.) We went to eat, to take a walk at a garden and shopping at Target and Kohl's. When shopping, DH wore him in the Ergo and got some looks/comments, though mostly positive. He slept the whole time :)

  • The most we've done is gone to grandma's and the pediatrician.  There was recently a story on the news about a 9m old at a mall who was diagnosed with the measles so I'm not taking any chances going too public just yet.

  • Well at 3 days old she had a pedi appointment and then we traveled 2 hours to my parents house for our family Christmas. We were out early because of having to take our older DD to preschool also.

  • 3 weeks because I HAD to take her to the doc for her (late) 2 week check-up! I was soooooo nervous, but as soon as I got her out I realized it was no biggie! She's in her seat with a shower-cap style winter cover, so no-one's germs are getting near her unless I ok it!

We're having our first social outing tomorrow morning (4.5 weeks old) and I'm looking forward to it! Still plan on keeping her hidden though! :o) It is refreshing to get out in the middle of this ridonculous Canadian winter! Can't wait till Spring so we can hit the trails for walks.
