On Monday morning I was in a car wreck. Someone rear ended me coming off the highway as I was stopped at the light. I now have a herniated disk in my back and a fun case of whiplash. LO is luckily fine. I've been sitting here reading posts in between sleeping in a recliner all week and talking myself out of taking the strong pain killers they insisted were totally safe for LO. Today, I managed to get dressed and spent 2 hours at my dr going over my treatment options. She recommended getting a cortizone shot. She said it was completely safe for LO and it should provide me with immediate relief for the next 11 weeks or so and then once I get done with the pregnancy, if it hasn't resolved itself on its own we can look at PT. Anyone have this done? It sounds pretty painful.
Re: Cortizone Shot Question?
As far as getting one while you're pregnant, I have no idea. But I've had cortizone shots in the past when I played basketball due to a torn ACL and it was not that painful. If it's something you think you really need, than just get it.
1st pregnancy: m/c began 1/12/09 d&c 1/13/09 8wks. Baby stopped growing at about 6wks.
Delaney: Born 10/15/09
Gavin: Born 4/8/11
Baby #3: due July 10, 2014
DD - February 2011
Most docs will recommend you only have a few cortisone shots done for a specific area over your lifetime, because it can weaken your joints and cause other issues. I would start with PT if you can bear it, and try a chiropractor too.
I had a doctor tell me I couldn't do a steroid shot for my lower back while I was pregnant -- but perhaps it depends on the severity of the pain. I still had other options to try at the time.
