Itching at PIO injection sites?

I didn't really have any issues when doing the PIO shots but for the last week or so (the last few days of the shots and since being off of the shots) the sites where we did the injections are itching like crazy! I can't decide if this is a possible allergic reaction? I mean, it is weird, it never itched while doing the injections and I never had any other issues.

But the two spots on each side are itching so, so bad.

(I'm not sure which kind of oil the progesterone was in, I'd have to check when I get home.)

Anyone experience something similar?

Re: Itching at PIO injection sites?

  • I had this after taking PIO for a while with pregnancy number 1 and pregnancy number 2.  Nurse said PIO is evil when it comes to allergy skin reactions!  My spots were almost purple from burning and itching so bad.  It eventually went away after miscarriage and stopping the injections, but I remember it taking a good couple of weeks.  However, I still have lumps on both sides from PIO injections even months and months later.... booo..... I was willing to suffer as long as I stayed pregnant, but unfortunately that wasn't in the cards...

    Hope you feel better soon!!!

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • I had this problem as well.  And it didn't seem to happen until after I stopped the PIO.

I don't have any cures but it did go away after a week or so.

Sorry that you have to deal with this!

  • I has a nearly identical experience... I started itching not only across my cheekies, but all over my body. Eventually, it was so bad that I begged my RE to get me off PIO in ethyl oleate, which he agreed to. After about two weeks on Endometrium I had a m/c. If I had it to do over again, I absolutely would've stayed on the shots. Good luck.

  • I really think it was just this oil. When Roselln sent me PIO back in October this never happened. I'll have to see which oil this was and ask to use a different one in the future.

I tried the hydrocortizone and it didn't help at all :(

  • That exact same thing happened to me. It was like a delayed allergic reaction. So bizarre.

  • wow.  I feel so much better.  Yes during the two weeks I took them, it wasn't this awful itching.  But now it's been a week since I stopped and I have awful itching.  Did yours go away?
