so we're snowed in (today and probably tomorrow too) and i went out earlier to try to dig a path to the car. while i was out sabrina was napping- or so i thought. she apparently was up the entire hour or so i was out. apparently she was hungry. dh says, "boy when she's hungry, she sure lets you know know, huh?" uh huh. why on earth does he think i have to have quick and easy stuff to make for her- she practically demands it! i guess she got a bib out, stood in the kitchen and yelled DaDaDaDa until he came, and pushed the highchair (on wheels) to him. haha. she then ate a piece of sliced cheese and goldfish crackers. this was all an hour after she had a bowl of fruit. i guess the blizzard made her hungry.
meanwhile dh is outside trying to dig out his car and i have no clue how to make pasta sauce from scratch (that's DH's thing) and soon she'll be waking from her real nap (cuz mommy's not a pushover like daddy is- shhhh). you THINK he would've learned his lesson at snack time that she's on a schedule and when she needs to eat she needs to eat OR ELSE! : D
off to google making pasta sauce from jar of tomato paste and crushed tomatoes.
Re: uh huh
Wait a minute! People make pasta sauce from SCRATCH?? That is just crazy talk!
First of all... Ragu. Open. Pour in saucepan. Viola!
Seriously, aren't our DH's so clueless? Cute, but clueless. My Mom and Dad just left for Hawaii. I will be opening the shop on the weekends for the next six weeks. I can't wait to hear how many times my DH says, "I don't know what to feed her." Probably three times a day. Although, his mom will probably be here the entire time too. So, he won't *really* know what it's like to get her lunch ready while she is breathing fire on your leg.
If you don't have good fresh tomatoes (yeah, yeah, I am a freak) then about 4 28oz cans whole or crushed tomatoes will work... plus a cup of olive oil and a whole mess of garlic cloves.
Take between 10 and 15 peeled garlic cloves, and cook 'em in the olive oil on medium or medium low for about 10 minutes, or until they're starting to turn golden. Dump in the tomatoes. Add some salt and pepper, and some red pepper flakes if you like a little heat. Simmer it gently for 3 or 4 hours, stirring now and then. Ta da.
You can add stuff or not from there, natch.
yeah, um, the sauce is still cooking! i saw that you needed onions and garlic along with the cans of tomatoes and paste and decided to let DH do it... it's 740 and i just put sabrina to bed. it took DH 2.5 hours to almost dig his car out. ugh. i made her some cheddar broccoli noodles with extra veggies mixed in while he was out digging.
i'm definitely a ragu girl. but we didn't have any and DH prefers homemade. i have to admit, the house smells awesome but yeah waaaaaaaaay too much work for me

I no longer make pasta with sauce as H is on a diet and not eating pasta anymore (he did lose wait), and Jason only eats Mac-n-Cheese.
LOL, ditto!
