can't handle 27 degree weather

i dont see how you ladies in the north deal with it, its about to snow..in louisiana! if you do live where there blizzards you are strong, people down here sometimes forget about winter weather, so im taking the day off and starting to plan the nursery (i'm thinking about putting it in the room that faces the back yard) should i keep the hardwood and put carpet in the baby's room? (p.s im not doing any of this, my dad is getting impatient because i havent come up with what i want done to it)

  • Yep, I'm sitting at about a -20 right now!!!  I'm jealous of your 27 b/c that would feel warm right now!

  • The nice thing about carpet is that it is plush and baby can crawl around on it. But I am partial to hardwood. We live in a house where the former owners lived here for 34 years and over the course had 4 dogs. So for me, it's time for the carpet to go...and I hate lugging the vacuum upstairs.

For our living room, we have a small area rug, but I think it will go upstairs to LOs playroom and we will get a larger plush rug downstairs.

  • I love living in the north! I lived in Georgia for a year and the humidity was ridiculous. I don't know how people go outside and deal with that. I like having four seasons and the thunderstorms here in the summer are AWESOME.

Sorry you're getting some of "our" kind of weather.

I prefer carpet because it's probably easier for baby to crawl/start to walk on. That's just my opinion though. Hardwood is so pretty but it feels drafty to me in a bedroom. For me it's more kitchen/dining room. Good luck on starting your nursery!

  • While I can say I'm not in love with snow, I do like having all 4 seasons - and sometimes snow is fun. But I've hit my limit for this winter.

I like both hardwood and carpet. Hardwood is easier to clean up if you spill something on it, but carpet is more comfortable for babies knees when they crawl.

We have hardwood but got a very plush area rug that covers almost the whole room. We got ours at Home Depot. They did not have a lot in the store but will special order.

  • Hahah! I honestly think you have to be born into it. This morning at 9:00am it was -3F without windchill. The entire month of January we didn't break 32F.

Indifferent  I couldn't live with that and I'm in PA, so it does get cold here. I don't know how you do it!

  • I would go with hardwood with an area rug.  My nephew lives in a house with all hardwood and he was walking with no problems by 11 months, as long as you get grippy socks it should be an issue.

  • I dont usually mind the winter, but after 18inches fell over night and the drifts are over 5 feet high in spots...I'm not a big fan of winter any longer.

I love the look of hardwood floors, and with a cute area rug i think i would be fine.

I was starting to think I might be the only mom living in Louisiana on here.  I'm in Shreveport.  I can't really complain about the temps lately though.  I grew up in WI and lived there until this past June.  So, even though this is cold, it's still better than the winters I'm used to.  I'm just glad that horrible wind from yesterday went away.

  • We didn't get above -2 in the whole Denver area yesterday. MISERABLE! And now our house won't stay warm at all!
