When to mail invites?

I'm hosting a shower in mid-May for my sister.  There will be numerous guests who will have to travel from out of town.  How far in advance would you recommend mailing the invites?  We'll be asking for an RSVP 2 weeks before the shower.  TIA!

4-5 weeks before the date of the shower. Gives people time to plan, schedule and RSVP.

My shower is Feb. 26 and invites were sent out this past Monday, Jan. 31, so about 4 weeks in advance? I think the RSVP date is Feb. 19.

I think 4-6 wks is standard. But consider other happenings that time of year. Graduations, weddings, communions etc... I am due first wk of July and think my shower will be around then also. I have 2 cousins graduating HS this year so I know my mom is jumping on planning to have her pick of venue and date.

They are having my shower the first weekend in May and we are sending our invites around March the 14th. We already reservered where we are having it because the first week of Jan they were already book through the end of April and the week after my shower. We have alot of out of town invites being sent out (very large families) that is why we decided to send them out so early.
