On Thursday, January 27th - 1:05 PM at 39 Weeks & 2 Days I was induced with my son Mason...never would I have ever thought of asking for an inducement, but, after 2 months of painful walking, sitting and moving, I just knew that it was time.
For 3 weeks there I was measuring the same - 36 weeks, so, my OB scheduled an US to check the growth of the baby and fluid levels. At that appointment I insisted that he was really big. My OB was sure he was small - either way, she wanted to make sure things were still okay.
So, the next morning I had a growth US and low and behold, what my OB thought would be a baby in the 6 pound region was guestimated at 8'12 from the US. Now, many will say that this it's just a guess - which is true - it can be a pound or two either way. Regardless, I was not only confident he was big, but, I was making a bet he was. So, I asked my OB about options...I did not want either an induction or a C-Section, however, I KNEW that he needed to come out - or, I wasn't sure he would be coming out "natural."
Call it mother's intuition - likely based on 2 previous pregnancies, where each of my other 2 were both delivered in week 38 after my water broke with both. And, both were just under 8 pounds each.
To my suprise my OB agreed that she would put me on the hospital's list for Elective Inducment - no guarantee's on when or if I would get in any earlier. Well, the hospital called that night and said I could come in at 5 AM the next morning for induction.
We went in and they started the pitocin...a couple hours later, my OB came by and broke my water. Then they upped the pitocin level and off we went. An hour later I got an EPI, which was working great for an hour or so.
At 12:45 PM my OB came in to check my status and found that I was ready to push...they got everything set up and I started pushing at 12:55 PM. 4 sets of 3 pushes and 10 minutes later, Mason came out crying and pissed off.
After measuring him, he was an even 9 Pounds and 21.46 inches long. To put this in perspective...I'm 5'6 and 110 pounds wet...he was one BIG baby and I proved my OB wrong. She was amazed that I was able to hide him in there somewhere.
He's beautiful and perfect...we had had some "abnormal" results when testing for Down's...so, you could say I was one of those False Positive results...in the end. The only issues that are present are with me.
While I was able to push him out vaginally - I had a standard 2nd degree tear and my hips/pelvic and lower back region feel like they are free floating/disconnected from my body. Walking and just about everything is extremely painful and I have to take a regiment of 2 Ibprofen and 1 Percocet every 4-6 hours...even 5 days later!
The moral of the story...mother's intuition counts for something and tests can be wrong early in pregnancy! Thanks for reading....
