Everyone warned me about the "terrbible 2's", but I did not think they were so bad... but now that DS is approaching the 3's, I have heard that behavior is WORSE for some kids! Give me the low down! Was it true for you?
abso-freakin'-lutely. The 2s were nothing compared to the 3s! The 2s is more temper tantrums. The 3s is manipulation, bargaining, the introduction of saying no in multiple ways (ignoring you, doing deliberately the opposite, etc.). I think it's a good preview to the teen years.
3 is harder, but I appreciate being able to negotiate and reason with DD, which has been easier this year. I have heard that odd numbered years are harder than even years, and it has held true with DD - 1 and 3 were much worse than 0 and 2 ... I am just hoping that 4 is a little easier!

Yes, 3 is like having a mini-teenager. The whining, talking back, screaming when she doesn't get her way, not listening, ignoring, hiding things, more active all around, running away in the stores & hiding in clothes racks! UGH!
Sorry to say it but YES. With my first, 3 was horrrrrible- the norm was multiple daily meltdowns. Was looking forward to 4, wasn't much better- neither was 5. I was dying! FINALLY she settled down more when she entered kinder right before turning 6. She is my drama queen though, and has always been my 'harder' kid. But even my easier one- boy, she has been a sassy 3. I'll take her over going through it with my first any day but oh, I'm praying it doesn't take until almost 6 again!
A FB friend of mine put an amusing status awhile back saying their child had skipped the terrible 2's but had a raging case of the fvcking fives lol.

Umm, DS has been doing this for a month. It's going to get WORSE?!
This has been true for us too. The past 3 months have really brought out some defiance in DS. Of course, he now has someone to compete with for attention.

Three has been awesome for us, even better than two but both have been so much fun. Not that there aren't rough days, but overall? It's my favorite so far! DD is funny, creative, sweet, playful, and challenging at times. Seriously, within a week of her birthday she somehow became even cooler than she already was.
We never really dealt with the terrible twos, thankfully, but her behavior has gotten worse since turning 3. I wouldn't call it treacherous or even terrible, but she has been getting more and more whiny and defiant. No is definitely one of her favorite words.
For the most part, though, we've been loving this age, although that only makes me think the worst is yet to come. lol.

With my older DD 3 was way worse than 2. Her tantrums were crazy when she was 2. I actually found with her that from around 2 1/2 through 3 1/2 were the worst and she started getting better the closer she got to 4. Now at 4 1/2, she is so much easier in a lot of ways (but hey, every age has its moments). My LO will be 3 in 5 weeks and so far, I have to say her 2's were pretty easy compared to her sister other than potty training. She is a stubborn child and can be a lot harder than her sister was in that way but she is not one that is pron to the tantrums like her sister. I am a little nervous about the next year with her although I think she will still be a bit easier overall than her big sis was. Either that or I am just more ready to handle it than I was the 1st time around given that my kids are 21 months apart and my younger one was a hard infant.
Two's were a breeze compared to the three's! It's been a nightmare. Tantrums, whining, massive attitude, rinse and repeat. I am desperately praying that the 4's are better.

My DD has been doing this for a few months now. I might commit myself if she gets worse
I love three! She's potty trained, dresses herself, asks interesting questions, goes to bed easily and sleeps through the night (which she didn't do for the first two years), goes to preschool two mornings a week and has some life of her own outside of being home with me. She has her moments where she's more challenging, but overall three has been my favorite year so far. Some days I think I'd freeze her at this age if I could!
The last 2 or 3 months have been awful, awful, awful for us. I can't decide if it's the cold weather and being cooped up, a new baby (although he loves his new brother sooo dearly), or the age, but it's been ROUGH. He's started hitting (whaaat?!), screaming, saying no, etc. I feel like such a meanie some days but it's the one way he will listen. He knows I'm not messing around.
I had a very very very easy 2 year old until just recently. So agreeable and sweet. But now it's a struggle... but we're getting through and have some awesome days, still! It just takes more of an effort.
Absolutely, 100% true in DD's case. She started to have more frequent tantrums, more independent and stubborn about pretty much everything and more defiant. She turned 3 in October and it's sort of calmed down a bit (ONLY a bit) but so far, the 3's have been way more difficult than the 2's. Hopefully, that won't be the case with your son! *fingers crossed for you*
