Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Lo is 13 mths old and refuses new foods...

So she has done this forever but now I am loseing all my patience lol. She will either chuck it off the tray and not even try it or if I spoon feed it she turns her head. She only eats certains foods. Used to be able to get away with gerb grad meals or stage 3 but now doesnt want them anymore. Tonight was sad she ate cottage cheese and puffs. I am getting soo frustrated. We also tried letting her get it herself out of the bowl and it was mac and cheese and she grabbed a handful and threw it and it hit my wall and then she threw it on the floor lol. Uhhhhh need help.

Re: Lo is 13 mths old and refuses new foods...

  • If DD doesn't like something at first, we keep trying and eventually she will eat it. If she throws her food on the floor, we tell her "No, food goes in your mouth" and point to her mouth. If she keeps doing it, we take her tray away for a few minutes. When we put it back and feed her again, she is usually okay.

Does she eat purees? If so, you could start with those again and then slowly wean to solids - like mix the table foods with the purees until she's only eating table foods.

  • I give her puree fruit but she will not eat any other purees anymore. Good to know I am not the only one Kingston lol. Hopefully our lo's will get better with eating soon. I am so jealous when I see my friends twins eat anything and everything that is on their tray lol.
  • Don't worry, my 13 month old is the exact...same...way lately. He used to be such a great eater. It's really frustrating, especially since he's on strict orders to gain weight. He feeds most of his food to do the dog who because of it, is getting fat.

That last statement really tickled me.  Poor dog.  :-)

  • I feel your pain.  My DS refuses to eat anything except for Cheerios, crackers, and pureed baby food.  We're trying to get him to eat more table food, especially now that he's a year old, but he wants nothing to do with it.  Tonight we tried to feed him pasta, grapes (cut into tiny pieces so he wouldn't choke), whole-grain bread, and cheese.  He alternately ignored the food and threw it on the floor.  Argh!

  • My DS does the same thing.  I just keep trying with the hope that he will eventually eat a new food.  He finally ate grapes(peeled and cut) yesterday and he ended up eating around 5 or 6!  I've been trying eggs and toast for the past week and he still just spits them out.  I've noticed that he will eat something one day and spit it out the next also.  It is very frustrating but I just keep trying!

  • They all go through that stage sooner or later. Just feed her what she likes, and they will get tired of it and want something new eventually. Just keep offering new things.
