Cloth Diapering

Newborn in prefolds ?

This might be a silly question but I have no idea what im doing...

My son is 2 weeks old and 8 pounds, his belly botton and circ are both healed so we started CD yesterday but they ook HUGE on him. Im usig new born prefolds and XS thirsties covers. nothing is leaking but he looks uncomfortable (like he cant close his legs) and clothes look rediculous over them. Is that how it supposed be? Should I wait until he's a litte bigger?

TIA

  • I thought the same thing! I ended up liking the prefolds once she got a little bigger. At 7.5lbs, we started the one-size and love them.

  • Yes, the prefolds are definitely fluffier than a disposable. If you're used to seeing newborns in disposables, then it is a little surprising. Don't worry - I'm sure he really isn't uncomfortable and before you know it he is going to grow out of the newborn diapers.

  • Thanks!!! I have some one size pockets ill try, though I was saving them for when he is a little bigger. We'll just see what works.

  • Yeah, it's normal in the beginning because they are so tiny.  Once he's a little bigger they won't look so big.  And although it looks bulky, he's probably not uncomfortable.  Both my daughters wore prefolds and covers at first.  If you are not having leak issues, I would not change anything, because leaks are the biggest problem in the beginning. As far as how it looks, you may find that you like the fluffy bum as you get used to it :)  I hate it when my kids have to wear sposies for rashes or whatnot - the CD bubble butt is much cuter :)
