If you've already registered....

Tell me how you picked a bottle. I hope/plan to BF, but still will need bottles for when I'm out or at work. Baby Bargains really glazed over this topic, and I don't know where to start! TIA!

Re: If you've already registered....

  • From talking to mommies it seems like this is really a hit or miss thing! Babies will pick what they want and we don't have much say in it. I've read lots of raves for Dr Browns, but had several close friends say to see if I can use something else first because they're a huge pain to clean.

We're going to try Tommee Tippee, and then Born Free, so we registered for small amounts (2-4) of each of those. Once we find something that works we'll buy some more.

  • I tried a bunch fancy bottles and stuff and all she really wanted was walmart generic bottles and nipples, she wouldnt use anything else consistently!

  • I'm in the same boat and registered for a couple brands...because we don't know what the baby will like (if and when he gets a bottle instead of breastfeeding).

  • i would like to try tommee tippee but I dont think it really matters... either they will take it or they wont. i think the safe thing to do is get generic bottles and you can always try changing the nipples if baby is picky.

I've been coveting the Born Free glass bottles, I love them! But our whole house is wood floors and I just know they'll end up shattered as soon as the baby is big enough to fling them around! :(

  • I have 2 registries and put a different brand on each one.  I put the First Years Breast Flow bottles on one and Playtex Vent Aire on the other.  A couple of my friends had good results with the Playtex, and I figured I'd try the Breast Flow since they're supposed to be close to the breast in the way LO gets the milk.

  • I registered for the Tommee Tippee bottles, First Years Breastflow bottles, and the Playtex Drop-Ins.  The first 2 I've heard are similar to breast feeding, so I went with those and the drop-ins were MH's choice.  I agree with PPs that it will depend on the baby's likes, so that was another reason I went with 3 options.  FWIW, I registered for a 3 pack of each one and I will buy more as needed.

This is the info I used for this topic...

  • I just put 3 different kinds since babies tend to like a certain kind. We'll do trial and error.
  • I've heard a lot of good things about the Playtex drop ins.. so that's what I've got on my registry for now. I plan to BF so hopefully LO will do well with those.

  • DD was fine with them all!  Honestly, I would register for one that isn't super expensive and easy to assemble (least amount of pieces).  I received a few free bottles from registering at BRU, BBB and Motherhood gave one out then, too.  I was also given some Medela ones.  Dr. Browns are a PITA, and I would not go there again unless LO has colic (again).  I loved the Avent and the Playtex Ventaire was fine, too.  The Medela seemed to leak once in a while.  In the end, I made sure DD was cool with them all.  I never really stuck to one brand and she was fine.  I did the same with sippy cups.  We have all brands.  I have my own preferences, but she can use them all the same.  Have fun!

  • I had an absolute meltdown right before our DS was born in Target over bottles.  We ended up getting a few different kinds and ended up really liking the AVENT or Dr. Brown ones.
  • I picked the newer version of the bottle we used when we had guardianship of my niece 5 years ago. It is the playtex Ventaire, this time I picked the one with the wider nipple that is more similar to the breast. MH and I both really liked it.
  • I registered for a small number of bottles (1-3 piece, no big "starter" packs) for almost every type I saw... except the Playtex Drop-Ins, because I'm not dealing with that.

I figure I'll start baby with the cheapest bottle, if he hates it, I'll progress up the ladder until we find one he approves of, then I'll buy more of those. Right now I've got Nuby, First Years Breastflow, Tommee Tippee, Dr Brown, Medela, Evenflo, and Born Free on there. We got an Avent bottle with our BBB goodie bag.

  • Thanks everyone. I guess it's just a wait and see kinda thing. My sister uses the Born Free Glass bottles, so I put a few of those on my registry. I guess I'll add some others too, just in case. These are the little decisions that are going to make me crazy Confused

  • Just a heads up to the ladies registering for glass bottles-many daycares won't allow you to send them in.  Just something to consider if you're going the daycare route.
