MH and I have had a boy name picked out for a long time. A girl name on the other hand is starting to become more stressful for us. Nothing we have run across really "jumps" out at us, and I really want to LOVE it as much as I love our boy name.
I like names from all different things, classic, unique, biblical, etc. Here are some things I have found that I know I like: Southern names, names that end in Y, ie, or ee, something that she won't have to spell since she will be spelling her last name out everytime, and something that can have a cute nickname.
Our tiny list so far:
-Emily Grace. I love this one because it has everything I wanted in my "criteria".....MH likes it, but he thinks it's really common. I love Ema or Emy for a NN.
-Brynlee. This one she would have to spell.
-Avery. All of my family and friends love this one.....but I'm just ok about it
-Kylie. I have loved this one forever, but now it seems too young and popular.
-Reagan. Not quite sure why we like this one, we just do
Any other suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks ladies!
Re: Having a hard time with a girl name...WDYT?
Emily Grace: this is my sister's name. You're right, it is crazy popular. But it is also girly and feminine and classic. So I like it.
Brynlee: For the love of God. No.
Avery: this is not your family's baby or your friends' baby.
Kylie: You're right, it is too young. A woman trying to establish herself in her career should not have the name Kylie.
Reagan: Reminds me of the Exorcist
-Emily Grace. Very sweet. A timeless choice.
-Brynlee. God awful.
-Avery. NMS but far from the awfulness of Brynlee.
-Kylie. Cute! Sweet and spunky.
-Reagan. Dislike. Too masculine for my taste.

Yep.
I like Emily, but yes, it's very popular. The rest I dislike (some of them a lot).
You like Southern names and names ending in a long "e" sound. So... how about:
Chloe, Daisy, Georgia, Heidi, Ivy, Lucy (nn for Lucinda), Lily (nn for Liliana), Maggie (nn for Magnolia), Ruby, Sydney, Zoe
The only one I like there is Ruby. It's also the name of my grandmother whom I adore. MH veto'd it though I could probably get away with it as a middle name. But with my liking of "e" ending sounds for a first name, it would sound too matchy I think.
Thanks for your opinion ladies, it's nice to hear other's views!
Emily Grace is lovely!
FWIW, I went to college w/a Kylee whose given name was Katherine Lee. That's an idea if you wanted to go w/a more formal FN.
I have loved Riley for a long time. I'm not quite sure why I took it off the list. I think maybe it got really popular......but who am I kidding, Emily is even more popular but I love it anyways! I'll add Riley back on the list
The only one I can tolerate is Emily Grace. I HATE Brynlee...can you imagine a mature adult woman named Brynlee?
Some other suggestions that might match your style:
Molly, Adeline (nn Addy), Kelly, Brynn, Evelyn (nn Evie), Caitlin, Lorelei (nn Rory), Maisy, Natalie, Sadie
-Emily Grace - Love! Despite the popularity, it's a beautiful name.
-Brynlee - Yuck.
-Avery - Dislike.
-Kylie - Dislike. Too young. Too '90s.
-Reagan - Second best on your list here. Not a fan of it, though.

What about Brynn? It's MUCH prettier than Brynlee, and it's gauranteed to age a hell of a lot better.
I want to like Emily, but I'm so over that name that I just can't bring myself to. A nice, if extremely boring and overused, choice.
The rest are NMS.
I tend to like classic names, so out of your list I prefer Emily. I think it's a beautiful name, even though it's very popular.
The rest of the names on your list are NMS.
When we found out we were having a girl our first choice was Emily, however, because it was SOOO popular we decided to name our daughter Brynlee. I have always gotten TONS of compliments on it and I think it is an absolutely beautiful name!!
Emily Grace - I also love the name emily but we are trying to decide if the commonality of it bugs us or not.
Brynlee - if you're going for a name that she doesn't have to spell out this is NOT it. There are so many different ways to spell it. Personally I like the spelling Brinley as it looks most correct to me. But I guess I am an odd one out as I like this name too.
Avery - Not a name on my top list but it's okay. For spelling this one is pretty standard so I don't think you'd have to worry about her spelling it out.
Kylie - also many spellings (Kiley, Kilee, Kylee... etc etc. endless combinations)
Reagan - not my style but it's not a name that bugs me either.
Other names for you to consider since we have some similar tastes: Madeline, Daphne, Brianna, Jocelyn, Mercedes (and go by Sadie)
I agree with this.
