Baby Kicks with Anterior Placenta?

Yesterday I found out that my placenta is anterior and could be why I have not felt my baby kick yet.  When, if at all, have any of you felt the baby kick with an anterior placenta?  I know that it could eventually move to the standard position.

Um, it doesn't move to the interior if that's what you mean. Placenta previa sometimes self corrects, but that is not the same as anterior placenta. They do sometimes coincide.

There are several posts about anterior placenta. It basically just means that the placenta is on the wall of the uterus closest to your stomach muscles rather than the opposing walls.

Statistically i don't know how common it is, i couldn't find any numbers from a reliable online medical source.

It has absolutely no impact on baby, but it can make your ultrasounds a pain. They still have to do my cervix scans vaginally sometimes, and we weren't able to complete our "anatomy scan" at 21.5 weeks because they couldn't get a good enough view of all her organs. Bonus is that we get another scan in a few weeks.

You will feel kicks internally eventually, you may never see them tho. According to my OB, they don't get concerned unless by week 28 you still can't feel anything.

He said that pretty much all babies are strong enough to kick/punch at 28 weeks for you to feel it through the placenta "pillow" at that point.

I have an anterior placenta.  We could see baby kicking from the outside by about 20 weeks.  I could feel her fluttering by 17.  For me, it has not been the dire "I'll-never-feel-my-baby-move!" situation everyone seems to think it will be.  This girl's a future MMA star or something.

I know that an anterior is harmless and read that it could move behind the baby (standard, posterior) at some point.  But right now it is in front of the baby so it blocks how much I feel the kicks.  I haven't felt them.  I know everything is good as I saw her on the ultrasound yesterday, she was moving her legs and I couldn't feel it.  The ultrasound is how I found out about the placenta.  I definitely do not have previa.

I began feeling swished around 19 or 20 weeks and now the occasional thump... Most of what i feel is low, around the waistline of my pants. I haven't figured out her pattern yet but I know that when i play her lullabye she goes crazy and I can usually feel her when i lay down to go to bed. They still aren' t really strong movements but they seem to be getting more frequent with the occasional strong kick or punch.

I'm 19w with my second, and I haven't felt anything yet, either. Would not be surprised if I find out I have an anterior placenta at our u/s next week, either. It's nothing to worry about, and I am a little surprised to not feel movement yet.

This isn't true. Anterior placentas commonly move to the posterior position.

I have a partial anterior placenta and I felt the first definite kick at 18 weeks 3 days. DH felt them a week later.

I'm on my 2nd baby and kicks started around 22-23 weeks and have just gotten consistent over the past week. My DH was able to feel baby yesterday at 24 weeks exactly and I can see movement on the outside now too.

It may be a bit longer for you since it's a 1st pregnancy, but it will happen eventually! Mostly, movement will just be "muted" and not as intense as if your placenta were in the back or in another position.

I have an AP as well. I felt LO at around 19-20 weeks, and saw my stomach move at 23 weeks.  Hubby still hasn't been able to feel anything yet though!

I have an anterior placenta too and I just saw a kick from the outside last night! I felt kicks at 20 weeks, but it depends on what position she's in.

I started feeling bumps and taps last week, so during week 21.

Hi fellow Chicagoan!  I too have an anterior placenta, and I definitely feel kicks.  However, they are always quite low, and on the "inside".  It feels like LO is kicking at my bladder.  I first started feeling gas-bubbly twitches around late-18 weeks.  I still can't feel or see any kicks on the outside of my belly, though--guess DH is going to have to wait awhile to feel movement!

22 weeks.  I'm 26 now and still very muted and my husband has only "maybe" felt her once.

I keep wondering if my doctor was looking at someone else's chart.  I guess I have an anterior placenta.  I first felt baby flutter around 16.5 weeks and saw movement/other people could feel around 19 weeks.  Though this baby moves ALL THE TIME.  I'm very (or I was) thin, perhaps that is why I could feel my LO so early?
