Need advice re: character reference

I've been asked to write a letter outlining the ex's treatment and actions (or lack thereof) regarding to myself and our mutual child by his ex-finance's lawyer in their cusotdy dispute. 

So my question is do I get involved and if so how much is too much?

I would just write the letter, be honest, and don't get involved any further.  Good luck!
