Not sure I can take the m/s

I can't look at food without getting ill.  I have force fed myself potato chips, popcorn, 2 bites of chicken, ~10 raw carrots, and a few tablespoons of PB (ETA: over the past 2 wks).   Carnation Instant Breakfast (DH makes me a nightly smoothie with a banana and PB) and diet ginger ale is all I can keep down.

I'm defrosting chicken in attempt to make my famous Chix Parmasen for the family.  I know I won't be able to eat it, but I feel so bad that they've been eating takeout for the past 2 wks.  I've already thrown up twice in the past 20 minutes from taking it out of the freezer and taking it apart in the microwave while it defrosts.

I'm so weak - ZERO energy.  I know I'd feel better if I ate solid food, but I can't do it.  I realize I'm blessed to be pregnant and shoudn't be complaining, but I'm loosing it emotionally.

Any tips? food suggestions?  This will pass, right?  I didn't have any m/s with DS - this is all very new to me.

  • I'm sorry Joy :(  Have you talked to your doctor?  I know there are meds that can help.

  • Try sour things (candy)...i ate sour jolly ranchers like they were going out of style.  While it's not healthy, they helped me feel better.  I also couldn't look at chicken durning my first pregnancy.  I tried eating little bits of food at a time before i got hungry or started feeling sick.  Is there anyone that can help you take care of your ds?  Good luck.  MS SUCKS, but it should pass.  And if it's really extreme, talk to your doctor about meds.

  • ditto the sour stuff--that seemed to help with DS. Actually, the only thing that really helped was Zofran. With DS, it pretty much made it go away. With this one, not so much, but I'm afraid to wonder what it would be like without it. I feel your pain. I hope it doesn't last too long--I'm SO ready for mine to be over and I'm in my second tri.

But definitely ask your doctor about zofran--I know how frustrating it is when you can't function due to nausea and exhaustion.

  • Talk to your Dr asap, there are a lot of good meds out there, I took Zofran my whole pregnancy and another one (can't remember the name). I also had horrible morning sickness with both. hang in there it does suck!
  • Zofran was a miracle drug for me.

Also, chicken was off limits. I wasn't about to touch it or cook it. If DH wanted it, he knew he had to do it. I could handle pork or beef, but not chicken.

  • Zofran helped a lot for me too.  And sour things.  Even just the scent of grapefruit, lemons and oranges helped.

  • You guys are right. I'm not going to wait until Thursday for my appt.  I'll call tomorrow and have her call in a prescription.  I'm not going to suffer if there are safe drugs for this.  Thanks for the support!  And DH is picking up Jolly Ranchers on the way home for me :)

Let me know if you can't get them sooner. I still have some from when I was pregnant with Drew. They are yours if you need them!

  • Andrews--was it phenergan? Or reglan? I took phenergan and zofran. Honestly, phenergan worked better because it helped me sleep. Sleeping was the only time I didn't feel like dying. Please take care of yourself. I'm not a pill-pusher, but speaking from experience, it doesn't take long from being nausea to taking over your entire life. Don't let it wait until Thursday!

BTW, my personal advice is not to let them prescribe the zofran ODT. You have to hold them under your tongue until they dissolve and they're dreadful. I vomited just trying to take them. Make sure you get the pill version.

  • So sorry you are going through this.  I have never experienced MS, so I don't have any suggestions other than yes, call your DR. ASAP for the script, and do WHATEVER you need to do to get through this....even if it means feeding your family cereal, take out, frozen pizza....whatever!!!!- for as looong as you need to :)

  • oh! also, if you can't sleep because of the nausea, you can take 2 benadryl or 1 unisom. I'm still doing that every night!

Right after I drink a 1/2 to a cup of DH's smoothie, I can go to sleep, but I'm waking up around 2am/3am with stomach pains (either hunger or gas?).  Looking up Unisom now...  I left a message for the OB nurse.  I really like my OB office and she did mention that they could "do more if I need to call back" when I called about it last week - Come to think of it, I kind of downplayed my sickness thinking that maybe I was just being a baby about it.  But after another week of this, it's real and it's bad.

On a happy note, I just ate half a cheese stick and I think it may stay down!

Thanks for the specifics about the meds.

  • two things to try:

Papaya enzyme ( in the vitamin aisle. ) very good for digestion and stomach settling.

and Ginger. if you can handle it fresh- grate some ginger root into a smoothie or juicer, if you can eat it candied, it's ok too- it REALLY helps me with nausea and motion sickness to eat it candied, and it's great for stomach cramps and pain when it is fresh.

I don't really care for the taste, but it's worth it. you can get bags of it in the bulk nut dept of most groceries...like with the bagds of raw almomnds, walmuts and dried fruits.

    good luck, m/s suuuuucks.

  • EBB - I'll definitly give the papaya enzyme a shot.    The nurse recommended the ginger last week too. I was just chewing Ginger Gum made by SeaBand for motion sickness.  It only helps temporarily (for like 2 mins) but it's enough to make me not actually throw up right after I eat.  1/2 cheese stick still down!!    Candied may work out great as then I'll be getting something in my stomach too.  Thx!

  • ugh, I had bad m/s with both my girls, but #2 was horrendous. I couldn't deal so I called my OB and he prescribed me Zofran. It was heavenly. Hopefully you'll get something soon, m/s is debilitating.  Peppermint worked well for me, so I sucked on those candies a lot.

  • Coke syrup poured over ice helped me too. You can buy it at the pharmacy counter.
