Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleep regression after RSV/a cold?

Just trying to see if anyone experienced something similar to this. The babies had RSV two weeks ago. They are better now, although still a bit stuffy. Since then though, they barely nap (only 20-45 minutes at a time...they used to do three 1-2 hours naps a day) and are sleepign terribly at night. Last night, we must have gotten up to tend to DS 15-20 times, including feeding him 6 ounces at 12am, before bringing him into bed with us at 3:30am. DD seemed to do a bit better than this, but not much.

Anyone experience something similar? If so, how long did last? How can we go back to our old sleep routine? DH and I are both now sick and haven't had more than 1 hour of uninterrupted sleep in nearly 2 weeks because we're getting up so much.

Re: Sleep regression after RSV/a cold?

  • Hang in there, Momma! We experienced something very similar. I'm not sure  whether it was the actual cough/cold that DD had, the nebulizer treatments (we read that the Albuterol can cause jitters and less sleeping), or just timing. She was around 12 weeks old then, so I thought maybe it was a growth spurt too. It took about a month for things to go back to normal, and she's actually kept up the nighttime feedings (she was sleeping through the night previously), but I don't mind since she's right back down again and I figure she needs the calories. I think it's one of those things where we just have to be consistent with sleep routines and the LOs will eventually get it and fall back into it. GL!
