Needing time off already

Good Morning ladies.  I'm only at the end of my first trimester, and I'm already feeling like I can't handle my workload anymore.  I feel like I need to take 2 or 3 days off to recuperate.  Does that sound silly?  I haven't been sleeping much, and I just feel wiped lately (nothing new to any of you).  Does anyone else feel like they need to change their schedule or ask for some days off to get some energy back?

  • From what I've been told the exhaustion starts to die down once you clear the first trimester.  I'm still feeling it, but I do think it's getting much better.  I can now stay up to almost 10 without feeling like I'm going to pass out on the couch.  Are you drinking any caffeine or did you cut it from your diet?  If you are, you could try having it the middle of the day vs the morning.

  • Do you have time off during the week or on the weekend? If so, let the housework go and take long naps on those days.  You are at the end of the first trimester, things should start looking up from here.  I'm not sure about your job's policies with FMLA but they might count those days off toward your total FMLA leave.  Is there any way you can rest during your lunch break? I have been packing my lunch so that I can eat and then take a little mini-nap in my car during the day. It helps with my energy level and mood tremendously.  Also, make sure you are getting enough protein and water during the day. Hope that helps! Big Smile

  • Even non-pregnant people need a day off now and then.  If you really feel like a mental health day would help you regain some energy and make you more productive at work in the long run, I say go for it if you have the time available to use.  You're nearly in the second trimester, so a day off to rest ought to be enough because you should be getting some energy back soon.  I think second tri is the easiest of the entire pregnancy - at least it is for me, personally.

  • I'm a personal trainer and fitness instructor. I typically work 7-12 and then 3/4-7 or 7:30. I teach about 25-28 sessions a week, 4 of those being group exercise classes. I'm really hoping I get the second trimester energy spike.
  • It sounds like you have a pretty active work day, so I think a day or 2 off would do you some good. I can't imagine having to be exercising for my job every day right now. I'm lucky to make it through a normal work day and then not pass out as soon as I get home. Don't feel bad taking a personal health/wellness day, especially if you can afford to right now.

Well that explains it! That's totally different than sitting behind a desk all day. It sounds like you may need to adjust your schedule. They say energy returns in the 2nd tri...but I've never felt it!

No wonder you're tired! I'm exhausted after sitting at a desk all day but I can't imagine how you feel.   You poor thing!  I just keep praying I start feeling a little more awake so I can get back to feeling normal again.  It's hard for me to deal with being lazy because I'm usually such an active, on-the-go person.

  • I totally wimped out and went home early today.  I was going to go home earlier, but ended up working half a day anyways.  Somedays I come home absolutly exhausted, and today I just wasn't feeling great at all.  No puking or anything, but just tired and felt sick.  So I called in the prego card and went home.  I know I can't do that very often, but today was one of those days :)  If you need a day, then take one.  Taking care of yourself (and baby) is super important, so do what you think needs to be done!!
