2nd Trimester

Electrical Static Shock Question

So tonight I accidently shocked myself on the light switch. It was very minor, but I read online that the baby should be monitored immediatly.

If course that scared me, so I contacted my doctor and spoke to a nurse. The nurse said it should be okay, which I'm sure it is. Has this happened to anyone else? What would you do?

I'm 21 weeks along, and really don't want to worry, but I can't help it.

Re: Electrical Static Shock Question

  • I read to call the doctor if you're having worrisome symptoms (Any numbness, tingling, paralysis, vision, hearing, or speech problems) or were shocked with over 500 volts. I think you will be ok.

  • I wouldn't do anything if there were no other symptoms - I'm sure you'll be all right Smile
  • Static shock?  You're fine.  If you had touched the actual wiring inside the switch box and gotten shocked that way, you'd want to monitor the baby.

This - I get static shocks ALL the time!!!  Never once did it cross my mind that it could be a problem.

  • If it's just static shock there's nothing to worry about, if you got an actual shock from electricity, that's different. Static shock is just that...static. I get it frequently from handing things to other people, touching things at work, etc. that have absolutely no electrical charge. If you actually got electrocuted call your doc and worry, but static shock isn't a big deal.
