Can I eat prosciutto?

Was making crepes with mozz, prosciutto and basil and just thought about this! I am thinking no, but just asking to be sure!

  • Depends how hardcore you are about not eating deli meat or other listeria risk foods.

    It's really up to you. Some do, some don't.

  • I eat it.  A lot!  My dr thinks the no deli meat thing is silly.  If you want it and you are worried about it, all you have to do is heat it thoroughly.  That gets rid of any risk.

  • Prosciutto might contain nitrites/nitrates. Check the ingredients list for this. If so, I would stay away from it.

    This!  Mine didn't even mention no deli meat...so I'm assuming the risk is pretty low.  But some days I worry a little more than others so I nuke my lunch type of meat for about 10 secs. or until warm through.

  • I love it, but i don't eat it.

    The salt content is a killer. I usually only get super high quality deli means (i.e. Boar's head brand, etc) so I'm not too worried about contamination. But, salt is not so great, and i've already got gestational hypertension so it's a no no for me.

    After baby's born it will be back on my menu!
