What do you put in it? DD starts a new (church) preschool Monday and we have to pack her a sack lunch. It can't be anything with p-nuts,and they don't have a microwave or fridge. DD will eat anything I am just stumped on ideas.
Hmmm....that's a tough once if they don't have a fridge. It seems unusual to me that a daycare wouldn't have one, since so many food items have to be refrigerated.
I usually send some combination of cheese, bread, applesauce, strawberries, bananas, pasta, yogurt or whatever veggies we have leftover from dinner the night before. But, a lot of that has to be refrigerated.
Maybe your daycare would consider getting one of those small dorm fridges? You could also ask them what the other moms send for lunch.
in our daycare, only cups go in the fridge, so ice packs go in the lunch boxes.
I send just about everything with K - lunch meat and cheese with veggies, jelly and cream cheese sandwiches, leftovers that are ok cold (chicken, turkey, etc). bagels with hummus.....be creative.
and as pp said, you can always ask daycare what others prefer.
We use an insulated lunch bag and ice packs ( I like the blue ice kind from Target that you can cut to size). They do have a microwave but other things to send:
1. Fruits
2. Raw veggies - dd loves red pepper
3. Cooked chicken with salsa to dip (eat cold)
4. Turkey sandwich
5. Bagel with butter or cream cheese
6. Cereal bars
7. Yogurt - the Gerber kind doesn't need refrigeration
I also use an insulated sippy for milk that goes in the bag.
Thanks ladies, Her other school provided lunches and we always eat hot lunches at home. We have the insulated lunch bag, and I found an insulated cup today. I love the ideas. My friend sends her son to school with a lunchable. (that has too many preservatives for me)
Re: If you send LO to school with a packed lunch

Some of our go-to lunches for DS are:
Deli turkey, cheese w/peas or mixed veggies
Pasta (rotini or similar fingery-type) with parmasan cheese & peas
Cream cheese & jelly sandwich
Baked ziti
Along with those he gets some fruit (grapes, blueberries or a banana) goldfish crackers & either a couple of teddy grahams or nilla wafers.
