I know this board tends to be divided on the subject of double middle names. We are working on a name for our girl, and I find I'm really gravitating towards the name Mae. The problem is we really want to give this baby the middle name Dale, after my dad. Obviously, the name Mae Dale lastname sounds terrible. Our last name starts with R and is 2 syllables, totally generic. We are kicking around the idea of using Elizabeth or Elisabeth as another mn to fix this. This name is found in both of our family trees in both spellings.
So, Mae Elizabeth Dale lastname? Mae Elisabeth Dale lastname? Yes? No way? Keep thinking?

I don't like double MN's unless it is a family tradition. I think it would be odd to use a double MN for this one if you didn't do so for your other children.
I would either keep thinking, or use Mae Dale. Mae Dale doesn't actually sound too terrible and I think it is perfectly acceptable because you want to honor your father.
what about margaret and calling her mae/ may? that way she has lots of nickname options if she doesn't like the name mae and it flows well with dale and probably your last name too [i said it out loud with richards and reynolds].
My first vote would be to save Dale for a future child.
My second vote would be Mae Elisabeth Dale Roberts or whatever. Because Dale is so short, it's fine.
My husband has two middle names. It has never once not ever in his entire life been a hardship on him. Not when he went to school, not when he traveled, not when he filled out applications, not when he got a marriage license, not when he has to fill out a form that can only take one middle initial (he just uses his first one), not when he made business cards, not when he got a library card, not when he says his name to people, not when we filled out our child's birth certificate, never ever ever ever ever.
Oh, and his sibling just has one. The sibling also experienced no lasting scars from this supposed trauma.
The people on this board who claim it will cause your child lifelong hardship are full of ****.
I like Mae Elisabeth Dale R--------
I think that because Mae and Dale are so short Elisabeth or Elizabeth works in this case.
I was thinking the same thing about when/if she marries & decides to move the maiden name to mn, however, that's a what if scenario anyway.
I know one female Dale. I'd either do Elisabeth Dale or Mae Elisabeth Dale.
Mae Elizabeth Dale Lastname. I know several people who have two middle names. My grandfather didn't have a middle name at all.
My grandmother was named Mary Dale Lastname...in honor of some male in the family. It sticks just fine.
