Dh and I have decided to try donor embryos. Since I've never had enough to freeze, I don't know much about FETs. If the goal is to tx two, how many do you thaw? And can you re-freeze? I want to be respectful of whomever chose to donate. I can only imagine their feelings about embryos being life, or wanting to give them life, so I want to respect their feelings. However, I also want to give myself a decent chance of having two to tx. Tia!
Re: Fet ?
We were doing a cycle this month but it got cancelled I had a crappy ovulation this cycle-WTH. We only had 2 fosites, 1 from our first IVF and 1 from our 2nd ivf. One was froze on day five and one was froze on day 6. We are thawing both and transfering both. I hope they both make the thaw next cycle.
from what I know, embies are usually frozen two to a "straw" for storage. You have to thaw the whole straw. Perhaps they are single in a straw, I don't know. They will.
The process take about 2-3 hours, so if for some reason they both didn't work (or you insisted on two, and one bunked) you just bump your xfer a little bit.
I've seen people talking of refreezing, but I *believe* (don't quote me) that you're actually talking virtrification and not the traditional freezing, or that's same same, or what? I'm not sure. I've heard of it being done, but it's rare.
If you want to xfer 2, I'd say start with thawing two. If it's a matter of "adopting" a certain number prior and you need to choose a particular couple/woman, I'd get more than one set, just in case.
GL! I hope to see this being done more. It just seems to make sense, it's more affordable, and seems like a "win win" on so many angles.
3 IUI's, 2 IVF's , 1 FET , 1 IVF w/ Gestational Carrier, and 1 FET using adopted embryo's = ALL BFNs
We are adopting!
