The Trigger Shot

Can someone give me experiences? If they find out I didn't just ovulate then I will take 150 mg of Clomid and monitor me around the middle of my cycle by ultrasound and if nothing is happening then they will give me the trigger shot. Where do they put the shot? Is the needle big? Does it hurt?

Re: The Trigger Shot

  • Um...please disregard my post below about pain??

Seriously though, when I had the trigger with a clomid cycle it was at the RE's office in the arm and didn't hurt at all. At home I've done it myself and last time it didn't hurt, just this time, so probably a fluke. The needle isn't big at all.

  • I had mine at the RE office and it didn't hurt at all.  The needle is so tiny I barely felt anything, but it did get a little sore and red the next day, but that went away the following day.
  • Yes, it is a tiny needle.  I had to do it at home.  DH had to give me the shot in my butt.  If you do it yourself, it's usually in the upper thigh.  Depending on if you have an IUI scheduled or not, depends on the timing.  The RE very well could do it in his office...my timing just didn't line up for that.  I'm not going to say it felt great, but for a shot in the butt from someone who's NOT a doctor by any means, it wasn't too bad.  The spot was sore for about a day, just like any other shot.
