So I was told we are having a boy at 16 weeks...I saw the picture, which is convincing.
However, I feel like I'm having a girl...all the cravings are girl, this pregnancy is totally different than my previous one when I had a boy...
I don't know if it is just me being in denial or what...but has anyone been told they are having a boy at 16 weeks at finding out at 20 weeks it is a girl?
I am desperate for a little girl!!!!
Re: Told boy at 16 weeks....
So you actually saw a little penis, you were convinced you saw a little penis.. But you're not sure you want to believe he has a penis?
Sorry no advice on this one..
Spontaneous pregnancy #1
DD1 July 31, 2011
Trying for #2 since Oct 11
Spontaneous pregnancy #2= Ectopic #2= lost left tube
Spontaneous pregnancy #3= DD2 January 29, 2016
Spontaneous pregnancy #4= Ectopic #3
Spontaneous pregnancy #5= Baby #3 is a BOY!!!
I am having my second boy and everything is different this time. Every pregnancy is different, regardless of gender. You want a girl so bad that you are trying to talk yourself out of the fact that you know is true- You are having another boy.
I also found out at 16 weeks that it was a boy and it was very convincing... No maybes about.
Congrats on your boy.
Well. I knew someone who was told boy the entire pregnancy and oop, it's a girl! Sometimes it's the umbilical cord. Unless you've seen a definitive "turtle" (sack/testicles and penis, I believe) then it could change, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Most techs/docs won't guess if they aren't pretty sure. BTW...they are looking for a "hamburger" for girls (3 lines that make up the labia).

GL! Either way, you are having what God meant for you to have. So get excited!
I just read that penis and clitorus is the same size before 18 weeks.
I am no expert though :-)
But, just be happy the baby is growing healthy :-) which Im sure you are... but your wording doesnt read that way.
Oy, I'm sorry if my tone didn't come out that way. My mind is everywhere these days!
I love my little boy to death and feel so lucky and blessed to be able to give him a brother but for some reason my mind keeps thinking I'm having a girl...mother's intuition is wrong I guess.
The "turtle" looked different than my son's but then again we found out at 16 weeks this time and with my son at 20 weeks.
I am blessed and thrilled for whatever comes out and yes, there is always time for a third!
This. I agree. I assume you are referring to the snarky comments!!!
Also, to the OP, there was a recent thread (I think on the July 2011 Board) about lots and lots of INCORRECT early ultrasounds. I know you will be happy either way, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. You are allowed to have a preference! Sheesh. I really wish people would be nicer and more supportive of their fellow Bumpies. I'm tired of the holier than thou comments. Luckily, they seem to be relatively rare.
Well, an ultrasound at 16 weeks isn't always accurate. But you saw you saw the picture and it was pretty convincing. So you saw a penis and you're still not convinced?
I'm also not one for believing in feelings. I felt like I was having a girl but it's definitely a boy. And you're saying that your cravings are girl. What does that even mean? Sweets? Those are just old wive's tales. Also, every pregnancy is different.
I think you're just wishing it was a girl. Just be happy that your baby is healthy no matter if it's a girl or a boy.
I was convinced I was having a girl this time around, right down to almost hitting 'pay' for pink bedding. We had sex 6 days before I even ovulated (I was temping), so I was pretty convinced it would be a girl. I had a 16 week elective done for gender, and we were shocked to find out we were having another boy.
I too questioned if there was a 'glimmer' of girl chance left right up until my anatomy scan today. Thought maybe it was the cord, maybe she didn't have enough experience, blah blah blah- even though the picture was clear at 16 weeks. It was obviously all in my head, because he had no problem at all laying out the goods again today.
Gender mix-ups can happen, but I think they're more rare than not (when it comes to boys being boys). Once a penis, always a penis.
Congrats on your boy!
Honestly, you don't have to justify anything to anyone hun. You are allowed to have a preference and honestly you are even allowed to be slightly disappointed if you hoped for say a girl and got a boy. But as long as you don't go spiraling into a deep depression over it then I'd say you're good!
I had a 16w 3day ultrasound (though by my count I was 17w 1d but that's not where LO was measuring). Anyway I too hoped for a girl but found out I'm having a boy. Boy or girl is fine as long as baby is healthy but yea I do think there is room for error. My anatomy scan is next week so DH and I will again pose the question of boy or girl just to be sure.
Good luck and keep us posted!
::snort::
Oh, and I agree.
ETA: While it is true that an u/s at 20w is more accurate than one at 16w, it's only slightly more accurate. Ie: 95% accuracy at 16 weeks and 99% accuracy at 20 weeks.
I wouldn't paint the room pink quite yet based on that 3-4% difference.
