Does your toddler like riding in the stroller?

I'm not sure K ever liked the stroller. She'd tolerate it when she was a baby because she had no choice, but now that she's walking she hates it. The funny thing is, she loves riding in shopping carts. Go figure.

Whenever we go somewhere that requires a stroller I dread the tears and the fights. The last time we used a stroller she wasn't a very confident walker, but even now I'm not sure I want her walking through the mall.

What makes me jealous is seeing all the other kids sitting peacefully in their strollers, some of them much older then K. Or the ones who are (gasp) asleep! I can't imagine her ever falling asleep in her stroller.

So, who else has a kid who hates the stroller? Misery loves company.

  • At that age, DS didn't really like the stroller either.  I think because he was a fairly new walker.  When I used it I always had to have things ready to give him for distraction like snacks and toys.

We are just now to the point that he'll sit in it with almost no protest. (knock on wood)  I can also almost let him out and he'll stay with me.  (sometimes)

  • Oh, I hear you about those kids that fall asleep in the stroller...jealous!! My kids have never, and probably will never fall asleep in it. (OK, maybe once they did...and I took a picture to document it!).

Anyway, Nolan is fine in the stroller most times. But he is pretty much one of the most laid back kids ever. He just goes with the flow. Brady on the other hand, hates the stroller. Since he was about 16 months old he has been walking when we go places. At first it was stressful because he would run off. I hated grocery shopping. But after just a few months he became much better and started listening. The more we let him do it, the more he listened and the better he became. Now I can let him walk around, take my eyes off him for a few seconds to look for something, and when I look up he is still standing there. The first time that happened it was a miracle!!! (Now I just take it for granted.).

You are not alone, many kids hate the stroller.

  • Katie use to like her stroller but now it is kind of a battle.  She will ride in it at the mall for a little if she has her snack cup but then she keeps telling me she wants to walk.  Her walking is getting a little easier now that she understand more and will follow directions somewhat but it is still really hard to shop if she is walking.

  • Bella has never liked it either. I am so jealous of all of the other families I see at the mall with a kid riding happily along (or sleeping) in the stroller.

  • He'll only tolerate the stroller if we're on the move. If I'm slowly browsing and he's just sitting there then he'll throw a fit.
